Vaas bowled Sri Lanka to more victories than Zaheer doing for India. That's when Murali was in the team, and sometimes on Sri Lankan pitches which are called "flat" by some posters here. Vaas was **** in Australia dn England due to lack of form as well as injuries hapenning in wrong times, but he did have a dream spell once in Australia. Vaas have no other comparable bowlers to him other than for Zaheer (even he was bit quicker than Vaas), closest I can remember is Shane O' Conner of NZ, who was fast medium and hadd booming swing and Bryan Strang of ZIM. None of them were as good as Vaas / Zak though. Bruce Reid was a different beast, big, skinny, with swing, pace and that X factor about him. Unstoppable force when he's fit. Closest to Reid was Nuwan Zoysa, same lanky, gangly and lazy type of runup, but never had that X factor.

Well bad stats are due to bad performances! Vaas was a fitness geek but he had his fair share of injuries. He had to change his action in early 2000s due to stress fractures. Given his excellent fitness record, one or two injury prone times can be considered less severely.

Vass though limited in terms of pace n physique made optimum use of his talent, Zaheer a much more dangerous bowler and clearly more gifted matured late n could have had better figures, Bruce Reid was far superior as he had the pace and awkward bounce but had terrible fitness issues. Even Irfan was more talented that Vass but Vass made better use of his limited means as bowler,the key is the ability to bring the ball in to rt handers which separates the men from boys

Vaas was more accurate. For me, he was left handed shorter version of McGrath and when he got swing with his accuracy, he was very tricky to deal with.

Lets say Wasim is on an average 10 through out his career. Then Vaas was a 6.5 throughout his career and 7.0 once in while Zaheer was a 5.5 - 6 for 1/3rd of his career; a 8 after his comeback from county stint and winning overseas test games for India until WC11; then a 6.5 until retirement Jimmy Anderson started off at 5 then got back his old action and entered 6.5 then 7 then 8 now 8.5 easily Steyn is a 11 now compared to Wasim's 10 Johnson is a 7 through out his career, occassionally 6. Then since the famous ashes officially entered 11 and flirted with 12 a lot of times since then

The stat for players in games won for batsman or bowlers, is the most idiotic and misleading state possible. Total nonsense. Its a team game, cant win without a team. eg score big ton but rest of players suck and team loses, that ton means nothing in this stupid win stat nonsense. Score 50 and rest of team awesome and tem wins, suddenly this ton is great in stupid what you do when team win stats. The great aussie team of last 20 years odd. Aus Batsman scores ton, team wins. Zak post 2006 was a far better bowler than Vaas

Skill-wise Zaheer is better. New ball, reverse swing, had better bouncer. Success-wise, Vaas little better. He was more consistent.

SL had Murali in supreme form taking most of the wickets in wins, but doing it when Murali was in hot form was a significant thing. Zaheer was basically the best bowler in his side and when he did well, IND won it. For SL bowling perforances in wins were both due to Murali and Vaas. And if you want, yuo can use the same argument for Zaheer as well. Anyway, that's my view point.
