achilles Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 If consistency was the barometer, Vaas is the clear winner. But if I had to pick someone to go on war with, it would be Zaheer Khan.
CG Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 :haha: Vaas was way better ODI bowler than Zaheer. Even Zoysa was at the level of Zaheer with the ball. And we are discussing tests here. Do u understand english? Have us Seen the op and title.Zak won us the worldcup and played when the odis pitches got flatter.Zak when he started had a great yorker and skill wise developed slower ball and even got the inswing. He and vaas are close imo.
thongale Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 You are spouting BS. Vaas also has a WC medal to his name in 96. Even considering higher rates of scoring and even after correcting Vaas has better figures than Zaheer. And to say zaheer played in a different era to vaas is lol worthy. 2/3 or more if their careers tend to overlap.
Cricket_Hacker Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 in test matches although Zak was more skillfull(had pace + reverse swing) but Vaas was clearly more successful. Was surprisingly poor in England though, where bowlers of his kind should thrive
kosingh Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 Zak had a fabulous run for about 4 years. He was fantastic in that period. But overall career? I think I have to go with Vaas. Comparison wise (and not cricketing ability wise), the Vaas-Zak comparison is like Tendulkar-Lara comparison. Vaas = Tendulkar, and Zak = Lara.
AmreekanDesi Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 lol Zak at his peak is just a rung below Wasim. Vaas was always an honest trier.
kubrickian Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 Vaas was a better bowler at home. Zaheer was better overseas especially against top sides like Aus, Eng, SA in their home conditions where Vaas was mediocre. Zaheer was highest wicket taker in 2011 World Cup and instrumental in winning the cup.
adi B Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 :haha: Vaas was way better ODI bowler than Zaheer. Even Zoysa was at the level of Zaheer with the ball. And we are discussing tests here. laughable post. zak' stats in odis-http://www.espncricinfo.com/india/content/player/30102.html zak has picked 1.4 wkts/match with s/r of 35 ,clearly a wkt taker vaas' stats in odis-http://www.espncricinfo.com/India/content/player/50804.html vaas has picked 1.2 wkts/match with a s/r of 39,clearly inferior to zak.add to that zak was the highest wkt taker in 2011 wc,single handedly took the charge. these are zoysa's stats-http://www.espncricinfo.com/India/content/player/51050.html 1.1 wkts/match with a s/r of 39 lol. u dont even watch matches, just come here to troll
thongale Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 So where is that ER? Zaheer 4.93 Vaas 4.18 Zoysa 4.52 u dont even watch matches, just come here to troll
thongale Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 And bowing averages - Zaheer 29.4 Vaas - 27.5 Zoysa - 29.8 u dont even watch matches, just come here to troll
thongale Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 And here is stats when minnows and Zimbabwe is excluded Zaheer Khan: Avg - 33.4, SR - 39.2, ER - 5.1 Chaminda Vaas: Avg - 29.3, SR - 40.9, ER - 4.3 Nuwan Zoysa: Avg - 29.4, SR - 37.6, ER - 4.7 (Note, gets better when opposition is better) Zoysa has better Average, SR, and ER bowling to non minnows. Basically closes the case against Zaheer who is inferior in every aspect to Zoysa in the ODI game. Vaas and Zoysa everytime in ODIs over Zaheer. Vaas is economical, Zoysa just gets better when bowling to better sides.
kubrickian Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 Are you kidding me ? Zoysa didnt even play 100 ODIs. Comparing that guy with someone who won a World Cup for his country is epic fail. Zaheer is a better bowler in tests than Vaas. Check his stats in Aus, Eng, SA which are challenging conditions as they had good teams and playing at home. Vaas averaged 41 in Aus, 77 in Eng, 47 in SA which meant he was very poor in those conditions. Zaheer averaged 35 in Australia, 27 in England, 35 in South Africa.

Vilander Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 Ah I see where you are coming from. Once again bit difficult to give stats, but would give a try. Vaas 43/111 won, Batting Avg 35.6, Bowlign avg: 22.6, 7 5w hauls Zaheer 38/92 won, Bat avg 10.7, Bowling Avg 25.8, 5 5w hauls http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/50804.html?class=1;result=1;template=results;type=allround http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/30102.html?class=1;result=1;template=results;type=allround When Vaas gets on a role, he usually wins it for us. Vaas appears to be an allrounder in victories, although it could be because of lesser batting team than the one Zak played in but he is clearly the better bowler eventhough his team has not won as much as Zaks because of others.
Vilander Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 I think the thing about Zak was he did it in limited overs as well. But it appears Vass in cusp of greatness but Zak falling short.
Vilander Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 If consistency was the barometer' date=' Vaas is the clear winner. But if I had to pick someone to go on war with, it would be Zaheer Khan.[/quote'] If consistency was the barometer, Sachin is the clear winner. But if I had to pick someone to go on a war with, it would be Brian Lara. :--D

I don't know out of which arsehole you have pulled Vaas' ODI stats. He averages 34 in Aus, 28.7 in ENG and 27.8 in SAF. Vaas is umpteen times better bowler in ODIs. And Zoysa didn't last long, but when he lasted, he was better than Zaheer in ODIs. Test matches of course you have a point. Even if Vaas was not good in above seam bowling friendly conditions, he contributed to the wins more than Zaheer. It's like, when hot, Vaas just demolished batting line ups which you don't attribute to a bowler of his speed. In tests I would give just an edge for Vaas. In ODIs how ever, it's no contest, even Zoysa has better figures than zaheer.
thongale Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 How does India become a minnow when Zoysa plays against them and non-minnow when Vaas plays ?OK my' date=' bad. Still has better stats than Zaheer.
