vvvslaxman Posted April 13, 2015 Author Posted April 13, 2015 Shikar Dhawan does have issues against short balls. He still plays as an opener. Hooda is not going to replace any top order batsman. We are looking for lower order hitter as INdia's woeful in the last 5 overs. In the world cup against Pak we made 24 runs in the last 5. Against SA we made 27 in the last 5 overs. There is a certain role that he can play effectively. He can be floated around as well. If we need some part timers to be cartered around he would be handy. Maxwell is not an expert against short ball either. He has his own issues.

We are not looking for Tendulkar here lol.Maxwell is a sitting duck against good pace bowling, short ball as well. Starc owned Brendon McCullum. We are looking for someone who can make it count against average bowlers. Didn't you see how we allowed Maxwell to get away with 5 overs 18 runs.

He looks to have better range of shots than Yusuf Pathan who we hoped to become a game changer for us. Apart from few knocks he failed. In the current lot forget about game changing we don't have anyone to make 30 runs in the last 5

Not saying he has to smash every ball, but atleast see if he can cope with that pace and swing.

Even SRT on his first Pak tour had thought "does he belong to this level?" after facing likes of Wasim and Waqar. Hooda has not played such quality bowlers in domestic, so, it will only be fair to give a longer run even if he fails early on against such bowlers. He can only get better if he plays them regularly.

We cannot use a worst possible situation for any batsman as yardstick to judge a batsman. If Starc gets his yorker going. i don't think very many in the world can take him apart. So let us not even go there. Most of the hacks (successful ones ) will falter against good quality bowling. Didn't you see how Starc bowled to Baz who is a successful test batsman as well.
