G_B_ Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Dare i say the governmental situation in Delhi is also not ideal. How long has Delhi been without a proper administration? More than a year now. Delhi needs a strong administrator. The BJP need to hang their heads in shame in regards to this. Rather than this will they wont they they should have had elections along with Maharashtra and Haryana. Time has come to make the major cities in India, Bangalore Chennai Mumbai Delhi Hyderabad Kolkata as separate states. The truth is with teaming inflow of people into these mega cities a municipal corporation is simply not enough.
AmreekanDesi Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 The problem is not Uber. The problem is RAPE. This was just the same story we hear every week in a different package. No need to deny the problem subconsciously by pinning the blame on Uber when a rape happens in delhi only every hour or less
AmreekanDesi Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 ok the complaint by the ladyi in the US makes it a bit more complicated and Im inclined to put some blame on Ubers door now
AmreekanDesi Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 what was the girl thinking anyway though??? I know its not her problem that men are idiotic pervs in the country but still she needs to be realistic. everyone and their dog knows that most of india especially delhi is not safe for women to be out alone after dark. And in this case she was drunk too which makes her an even easier target. WHY not take the necessary precautions and take risks into account!
Malcolm Merlyn Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Btw Uber needs to realise that its brazen ways wont work.

bulbul Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Portland sued Uber on Monday to stop the fast-growing ride-hailing service from operating in the Oregon city until it follows local regulations. Uber operates in areas around Portland, but only started up in the city itself on Friday, without consent from authorities or any agreement over how it should be regulated. "The city's lawsuit is asking for a declaration by the court that Uber is subject to the city's regulations," the city said in a statement. "The lawsuit also asks the court to order Uber to stop operating in Portland until it is in compliance with the city's safety, health and consumer protection rules http://www.nbcnews.com/tech/innovation/portland-oregon-sues-stop-uber-online-car-service-n264601
Stuge Posted December 10, 2014 Author Posted December 10, 2014 What would you like her to have done? I won't blame her but drink this much that you remain in your sense to atleast fight back. This applies to both the GENDERS(Specially qhen you know you are at your own).World is not an ideal place, and our country is far from being an Ideal place to live specially for woman .People should do whatever they want but do it with precautions. It doesn't mean that person may not get rapped or robbed etc but do whatever you can do to protect yourself from harm.
Stuge Posted December 10, 2014 Author Posted December 10, 2014 Plus ,I still dont understand why girls dont keep pepper spray with them
Detonator Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 This is stupidity at its highest order. By banning UBER, one is just tiptoeing around the failed bureaucracy and the incompetence of police procedures. The accused apparently was acquitted of rape charges in 2011, I bet due to lack of evidence due to the incompetence of police securing evidence from a crime scene which could have led to the conviction of this criminal instead him roaming around free. And then he managed to forge an all clear certificate to get his taxi license. So cops should be going after these forging documents gangs to prevent the repeat of this incident in the future but NO...quick solution...ban UBER and blame it on them to hide our incompetency and keep public happy. No wonder, companies are afraid to invest in India. Agree with the police incompetence but the ban should be imposed on UBER. Please scroll through 3rd point in page 6. The other cab services are banned after inspection, which might have exposed their filth. http://www.delhi.gov.in/DoIT/DoIT_Transport/trrs31.pdf The entire service sector in India is easily the worst among the other units. Every thing is imposed on the customer, be it trading, transport, telecom, real estate etc., Literally no one is following the rules.
Detonator Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Not just Uber' date=' ALL web based Taxi services.[/quote'] I think they banned the services which are operating illegaly. If govt. decides to inspect all the business units, I bet 90% of the private companies might be banned through out India. As unrealistic as it gets, I bet the entire Indian railyways will be banned.
Stuge Posted December 10, 2014 Author Posted December 10, 2014 http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/delhi/App-based-cabs-continue-to-ply/articleshow/45442989.cms?utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=TOI I guess companies are yet to get the written order from the RTO relating to this .Media needs to get their reporting right .

What does illegal mean? The law hasn't kept up to the times - simple. The government has actually banned web-based taxi services because they don;t have an adequate law to deal with it.

The government has actually banned web-based taxi services because they don;t have an adequate law to deal with it. No dood, the Motor Vehicles act is the same for any transport service, cargo or people carriers, they have to be registered. From what I have seen, most taxi services operate in two ways. One is an individual or a company which owns a number of vehicles and employ drivers. The other is the drivers own the vehicles and a broker who provides a platfrom that organizes the service, like Redbus. Uber and other web based ones is the second type. Quoting your quote HMOIndia: Such service providers which are not licensed with the State Govts/ UT Administrations are prohibited to operate till they get registered. Uber Delhi 'rape': India tells states to ban web taxis India's home ministry has advised all states to ban unregistered web-based taxi firms after a driver for the Uber service was accused of raping a passenger in the capital Delhi. Delhi has banned Uber and several other web-based taxi firms for failing to carry out adequate driver checks.
AmreekanDesi Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 What would you like her to have done? a) not gone out alone in the dark b) not gotten drunk and have no one to take care of her. We can all say whatever we want and how its not her fault and the men should be fixed but that ignores the reality of our country which we all know. its not an ideal situation but it is what it is and hence precautions should be taken.
Sachin=GOD Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 From twitter: You hired a rape-accused driver. That's wrong Uber. You will be charged. Ok. Our govt has hired a rape-accused minister. What's with that?

I'm sure this tweet or lines are from AAP guys for sure .We just need to make everything political and take political mileage out of it .
Texan Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Uber is getting screwed left, right and center. Now the DA's in SFO and LA are also suing them The car service is being sued for misleading business practices by the district attorneys in San Francisco, Uber's home city, and Los Angeles. The suit, filed Tuesday, accuses the company of misrepresenting the extent to which it screens its drivers, and charging bogus fees. Uber's website promotes its background checks as the best in the business. But the company does not require drivers to submit fingerprint identification, which is a requirement for regular California taxi drivers. Instead, Uber drivers submit personal information on the company's website, and the lawsuit contends that criminals can slip by using another person's identity to register. San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon and Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey list examples of Uber drivers who have criminal records. An Uber driver in San Francisco who passed Uber's screening struck killed a six-year-old girl last December. It was later reported by the San Francisco Business Times that the driver had a criminal history of reckless driving. The California prosecutors also charge that Uber, which is valued at $40 billion, charges customers "misleading" fees. Uber charges riders on its UberX platform a $1 "Safe Rides Fee," that it says covers the company's extensive background checks. It also charges UberX riders a $4 "airport fee toll," even though Uber is banned from dropping off or picking up customers at San Francisco's airports. (Uber received a cease and desist order from airport authorities about this practice in April of 2013.) The California prosecutors are demanding that Uber repay every customer who paid these fees. Additionally, the suit says the program Uber uses to calculate fares has not been approved by state regulators. An Uber spokesperson said the company has already met with the district attorneys and will continue discussions with them. "Californians and California lawmakers all agree -- Uber is an integral, safe, and established part of the transportation ecosystem in the Golden State," spokeswoman Eva Behrend said in a statement. Uber declined to comment on the lawsuit. "These [taxi] companies can be innovative in the way they deliver services without ignoring the laws that protect the public," the prosecutors said in a statement. Uber's competitor, Lyft, reached a settlement Tuesday with the same prosecutors in a nearly identical lawsuit. Lyft will pay at least $250,000 in fines and agreed to accurately advertise its background checks, according to the prosecutor's statement. Uber is getting pushback from local officials worldwide. A judge in Spain temporarily blocked Uber in the country on Tuesday, a day after police in India's capital, New Delhi, banned the car service. Authorities in Portland, Ore., filed a lawsuit Monday demanding the service be suspended until the company complies with local laws. http://money.cnn.com/2014/12/10/news/uber-lawsuit-california/index.html

We can all say whatever we want and how its not her fault and the men should be fixed but that ignores the reality of our country which we all know. its not an ideal situation but it is what it is and hence precautions should be taken This guy is a serial rapist who raped women as a normal activity. He has confessed to hunting and rapint many women while working as a driver. He raped amany women in his village. With a the exception of a few...most did not report the rape. Why? Because of men who blame the victims. She shouldn't have travelled in the darlk...shouldn't have had drinks....Not all his victims were raped in the dark.He called a woman chachi and raped her in her home...he raped an 18 year old....he raped eveyone he wanted to.,..because he knew the victims would either stay quiet or be told to stay quiet.Because there are no dearth of people who will blame her no matter what. Go ahead...start the blame game.Which one of her victim should not have done what to avoid being raped.Bloody effing people blaming the victims.
