Realizing the importance of Bhuvi?

We never had great fast bowlers. Our bowlers were always like that. I dont agree that they do not the passion to play.

Not just pacers ...Look at the application of our younger talented batsmen in tests too. Especially if it a long test series.

Yeah does appear that not too many things are right - holes to plug everywhere - but a good thing at least we are starting the series with 6 batters. Just hope the rain doesn't spice up the track - but if we somehow see that off should remain truer on the 5th day with us trying to save the test.

It depends a lot on how we bat in the first innings. Would set the tone for the rest of the series. The biggest problem with our young batters has been playing swing , they are mostly decent against bounce nowadays. With the ball not expected to swing dangerously in Australia, let's see how they perform.

Yes pace and bounce today should be less of an intimidating factor psyche wise agree. But their impact on wicket taking should not be underestimated - our batters 'cause of a variety of reasons could be a bit more emboldened today than before and take silly risks/tendency to look for runs in which case pace and bounce both will definitely play a big big part. Also Aus bowlers regardless with get enough movement to cause trouble - combine this with pace and bounce and one would realize why it is quite possibly the toughest country to play cricket in - apart from India - as always fingers crossed this will be great to watch the challenge of it and how we choose to go about the whole thing.

I get what you are say. You are right in absolute terms. I was actually making a comparative analysis between various playing conditions + bowlers and our batsmen's ability to tackle them. They played better in South Africa where the swing/ seam, though present, were less. But pace and bounce were more when compared to England.

In England he didn't had the necessary support bowlers. Shami was poor and dropped, ishanth got injured after first test match. Pankaj was poor. He had only binny and varun at the end when bhuvi looked really tired. This match could have been a nice opportunity. Alas..!!

5th day? :) Watch the batting (Indian). It will take a bit more than 2 sessions for Aus to end one Indian innings, and then another 2 to finish the second. 5th day :) Which few of our top order batsmen look like they have the Technique and Will (both) to 'battle'?

lack of pace does not work vs the aussies...its a different ball game against them srinath for example averages around 50 in Australia....zaheer around 35...even among our best bowlers,only kapil was successful away one cannot recommend medium pace vs australia and sa at all.fast medium on the lines of Anderson or kapil maybe ok.. they neutralized philander completely in the last series.

the srinath example was to highlight even our best pacers had only limited effectiveness vs Australia. leave alone the trundlers.

With an extra yard of pace, Bhuvi Kumar would be a wonderful bowler with his skill and control. But at 78-80mph batsman has too much time to counter it.

So far, Bhuvi has not been a wicket taker outside England...where there is continuous swing and/ or seam movement ... his forte. I don't think his inclusion would have made a huge difference in Adelaide.

Played ODIs outside India and England. There too , he is economical and not wicket taking. Bhuvi is a good bowler. Question is , in a test match, do we want 2 economical and defensive bowlers ( Ishant is the other one ) ? I would like to check out Umesh first in place of Shami. Bhuvi will anyway not be fit before the 3rd test. Based on the second test, Bhuvi's inclusion can be decided.
