Test match wicket-keepers

And that's the basic problem - both are crappy wicketkeepers like Dhoni. What the team needs is a good wicketkeeper who can contribute 20-30 runs away' date=' not a goalkeeper who pisses his pants and does not attempt catches.[/quote'] which i agree with ..i have always backed saha for exact same reason but knowing this is india we will pick batsman who can keep over keeper who can bat so discussing these guys is not that far fetched also i believe samson is young enough that if he tries to improve now he can make it . i think if we give saha run of 5-6 games he will deliver he is back bone of bengal side in batting and people underrate his batting a lot .

Saha for now. Want Naman Ojha as a batsman in place of Dhawan. Hope Sanju starts taking keeping seriously. He is still very young and his easiest passage to indian team is WK role.

We need a genuinely good keeper who can dive around and take catches, energize the fielding unit with his attitude. This can help us a long way in restricting opposition teams from scoring mammoth totals. An avg of 25 is good enough for me provided he is a top WK. Gilchrist gave a false notion of the role of WK, he was a unique breed and such players are born once in a few decades. Since Gilchrist era all teams want good batsmen who can keep instead of good keepers. That is why Saha fits the bill for now.

problem is we get away with this stuff at home we get away with playing batsman who can keep a bit and playing 4 bowlers and we get tempted to play extra batsman.. in shorter formats it can work but n tests they need to just understand how much a good keeper can make difference the job of first slip will be much easier too if he knows keeper will go for catches which will fall short ..

Has to be Saha.Best keeper and solid batsman.Don't read too much into his brainfart at Adelaide. He was asked to bat aggresively which isnt his game.Looked good in first innings but got wrong decision

Login to ICF after a few months and see Ojha and Samson being touted around as keepers!
Look around a little more and you'll find Uthappa being touted as a replacement too. If someone puts up a poll about the best possible replacement, I'm sure Uthappa will get 4-5 votes at least.

The other problem is Saha has played three one-off Tests in 2010, 2012 and 2014. So no one really remembers what he did. In the first, he notched up two 50-run partnerships with the tail (Bhajji and Zak), in the second he had a century partnership with Kohli (at Adelaide) and in the third he was batting well till he got a wrong decision. But most people only remember the brainfart because of its timing. He needs to be given a proper run now to figure out whether he is cut out for the big league.

Yeah. I don't think he is anything amazing with the bat but as much as anything we need someone who can form partnerships down the order and provide solid support to those around him. 25 (18) innings are not much use. I back Saha to be able to do this. But clearly on away tours there will be someone as backup just interesting to discuss who.

Dinesh Karthik seems to have matured as a batsman but how is his keeping? He was pretty poor keeper to spinners iirc
He for some reason bottles it at international level also his keeping is never safe ...

He has regressed both as Keeper and batsman in last 2 years
