SRT100 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Given just how well he has played in the test team on AUSTRALIAN PITCHES, should he be a part of the tri series ODI squad? The next test series is months and months away. I dont think Dhawan and Rohit can bat on AUSTRALIAN PITCHES. Furthermore if they fail, we have someone who can genuinely bat and hold up one end during a game.

I read a stat that he leaves almost 98 % short deliveries and you cant do that in ODIs. He is a batsman who looks to play straight and doesnt play too many horizontal bat shots and even shots off the back foot. This might be a problem in ODIs in Aus/NZ. But deserves a shot in tri series. He has good defense technique when there is lateral movement and when there is extra pace and bounce which could come in handy. He can also dominate spin. If he adapts well, then he should play in World Cup.
express bowling Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 ODIs in Australia are closer to test matches than to subcontinent ODIs. Ability to stay at the crease against good quality pace bowling maybe a necessity. Vijay will be needed IMHO. There would not be the need to hit every ball.

ODIs in Australia are played on flat tracks and are generally very good for batting.
Old guy Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 I honestly think vijay won't do well in limited over cricket and he will seat playing those front foot cross batted blocks over mid on and get out . Will rather open with Rahane and ask him to play through he is good enough to do that ..
Vijy Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Not a bad idea... provided that he's told not to play it like a T20. Rahane's ODI record isn't very good (although it's improving) and Rohit is a hit-or-miss (mostly the latter). Dhawan has been more successful, but he's too flashy.

ODIs in Australia are very very very different to ODIs in India. Scores of over 270 are very very competitive and match winning compared to India where 300+ is needed. His defensive skills will help us during some tough bowling in the first 10 overs. Dhawan and Rohit will struggle in Australia. I am confident that Vijay will play. Those that are worried about him losing his test match form, firstly there is no test matches scheduled for a long time. Secondly this would be the first and last time ever that he would be needed to play ODIs.

Secondly this would be the first and last time ever that he would be needed to play ODIs. sorry but you are confusing vijay who plays test cricket with vijay in odis .. for purpose you mentioned rahane is perfect batsman and he is having just as good series as vijay in australia and seems to have safer stroke and better strike rotation needed for odis .

We already seen him messed up after IPL stint.....now he is back to his normal self...... I am not sure, if anyone would want to take that risk

I am not sure, if anyone would want to take that risk He is already part of the ODI squad.. .He has been in the squad for about 15 months now... Time we try him out in the ODIs again

And seems to transition to tests just fine. No reason to believe he'd be unable to transition form ODIs to tests also
