vijay50 Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 1. Dhawan- Good in making anda/duck and Maggi noodles. Will last less than 3 overs in Aus. 2.Rohit- Terribly inconsistent. One 100 or 50 will be followed by several scores less than 30.Also will acclerate only after 100 balls. 3. Rahane- Technically good player, still finding his feet in ODIs. Havent made many 50s. 4.Kohli- Tendu ka baap in ODIs. 5.Rayudu-Slow poke and gets out in 30s. 6.Raina- Impact player.Unsure whether he can face good chin music in Aus. 7.Dhoni- Good. 8. Jadeja- Poor man's Yuvraj.Unsure whether he can bat or bowl well in Aus. 9. Bhuvneshwar- Unable to pick early wickets , which is causing big problems for India. 10. Shami/Umesh-Run leakers and unable to pick wickets. 11. Ishant-Inconsistent, will always be unlucky and not pick wickets. Binny/Ashwin-Inconsistent with bat or ball. So that essentially leaves Dhoni , Virat, Raina/ Rahane to win games for India with no support whatsoever from shiiitttyyyy bowlers. How can India win 3 games in their first round? What should Dhoni do to make sure that the bowlers step up?
vvvslaxman Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 I have made peace with the fact that we are not going to win in Australia without bowlers. Even with 7 gun batsmen we can't win there without bowlers help. Only positive we carry is as a team we handle pressure better in a big tournament. But that is not enough. That has to be complemented by semblance of positive, ruthless cricket over a period . In almost all the major multinational tournaments where we had good results our bowling stepped up. 1983 world cup where we shot out Australia for 129 runs in virtual quarter finals , England for 216 in semis and WI for 140 in finals. In 2003 we ripped through almost all side with our bowling except Australia. In Benson and Hedges.1985 our bowling was so spectacular that we bowl out sides every single match except final where we had Pakistan 9 down. In CT recently our bowling was pwning almost all the teams. In 2007 world T20 RP singh was going nuts in every match. 2011 was probably an exception where most of the games were reasonably high scoring due to nature of pitches. When you look at the current bowling unit, there is not a single bowler who look like stepping up. Nobody is blessed with the ability to bowl unplayable spells. Bhuvaneswar was my only hope. Looks like he is not fully fit . He is definitely not even 60% . Everyone can do an average job. That's about it in current form. In other words. this is probably the first world cup where we go with zero trump card.
fineleg Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 vijay50, Change your thread title - "How are we gonna make it past QuarterFinals"? and "Would we beat Pak in league stage"?
Mindreader Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 First question is can india beat ireland to go past 1st round
tweaker Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Indian team is now full out of form & injured players
amiret Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 so how are we going to win the world cup? Through administrative and marketing "means/device". Basically we have to convince the other boards that it is in their best financial interest that India does not get knocked out before the Semis. BCCI needs to send them a polite message that the broadcasters/advertisers stand to lose substantially if India ( the main draw ) goes home early .
Desi Cartman Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 so how are we going to win the world cup? By playing the tournament on video game with the help of cheat codes
renjith Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 1992 we did this same mistake of a very long tour before the world cup and everyone was exhosted. that time bcci arranged a 1 week break for players to come back to india to get fresh mentally. unfortunate thing is we didn;t learn from that experience. op is right, if we are to win this world cup, we need to do it with 3 players. I won't include rahane as well in that list as he is not yet a good odi player.
Cricketics Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 O man. This is turnig more and more like our 2003 WORLD Cup campaign. I remember when Indiablost to Australia in group game which was right after our poor batting performance in the first game against Netherlands, people were out cursing team and players. I remember Aaj tak had messages floating on bottom of screen from its viewers with things like "keep Indian team in African Jungle" etc. Have faith. We will do good. We still have plenty of games to find the right combo. The positive side is that our big guns are yet to fire. Also big positive is that Rohit, an openere has started showing consistency. Bowling will get better. Bhuvi is still needing match practice and I do see him getting better Umesh'sdeath spell against Australia in the first odi was great.

In 2003 worry was form more than ability. Once they hit the form things fell in place. Especially Sachin was in beast mode well assisted by 6 other batsmen. This time problem is with both ability and form.

We play so many games before quater finals come up. I am sure players would have fixed the issue by then. Also in 03 we had lot of bowlers playing their first world cup - Zahee, Nehra, Harbhajan. As you mentioned about tendulkar, we really need one batsman on top to show something similar. If Kohli or Rohit can do it, it can turn into a brilliant campaign. Trust me on this. Dhoni will do well whenever he bats in this world cup. but if the guys at top score, we are sure to put up great scores every game. Probably enoug for our not so experienced bowlers to defend.

Kohli will get into Beast mode when he gets back to No. 3 Should get enough support from Rohit, Rahane and Raina... Matter of time before things fall in place
MCGGG Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Kohli will get into Beast mode when he gets back to No. 3 Should get enough support from Rohit, Rahane and Raina... Matter of time before things fall in place Australia have 6 batsmen capable of reaching "beast mode", along with the best bowling attack on the planet, my point is it's going to take a hell of a lot more than an inform Kohli for India to win this WC.

WI will beat Aus in the QF... Gayle will repeat the 175 knock at Adelaide highway India won't meet Aus :om:

You heard it here first. They are playing at home and playing the World Cup in front of your home crowd is immense pressure. Even Brazil choked in World Cup in front of their home crowd. The reason why India won the World Cup in 2011 was because they knew how to absorb the pressure and one of the main factors was playing under pressure in IPL year after year in front of huge crowds and in tense situations. Its this ability to absorb pressure which will help India in 2015 as well and this time, there are not many expectations from them because of playing in alien conditions so they can play even more freely.
