Ian Pont Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Following the AMA a few people asked me about seeing the coaching in action and what the UPF is all about compared to a place like MRF. I hope the mods don't mind me therefore posting this ICC filming they did at Camp 1 (we are booking now for Camp 6) in Bangalore, last January 2014. It gives a flavour and taste of a tiny slice of what UPF is all about.. from Day 4
BlueBee Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Keep up the good work, Ian. :two_thumbs_up:
Temujin Khaghan Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 had enough with mules, packhorses and workhorses here's hoping that you will give us some racehorses :two_thumbs_up:
pindxb Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Lets try to get more Indian boys to enrol in the UPF.. Spread the word.. social media, papers, word of mouth.. somehow .. India needs good pacemen. Period.
Temujin Khaghan Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 The problem with BCCI is that they will only endorse the products from the trundler factory at NCA. i hope they will encourage promising youngsters from here. i would have loved to join in this, if it was set up about 15 years back lol :D :((
Shivaji bhonsle Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 You guys gotta watch the video. Excellent one.
MCcricket Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Ian Pont is a very good candidate for bowling consultant, he is an authority in fast bowling and could be invaluable for team India, he could make bowlers like Umesh, Aaron, Suyal, Shami, Aniket, and U19 talents to world class
Detonator Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Really good work sir! All the best for those young trainees
Texy Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 This is excellent work Ian. Not only will it improve the bio-mechanics aspect of their bowling but personality growth as well as improve the thinking game of these young aspirants. Ian, do you guys discuss the dietary, nutrition part of the health regime these boys should adapt to improve their stamina and strength? I am a physician by profession and would be curious to know about their calorie/carb intake as you know pacers have high energy requirements and sometimes these boys do not get the proper nutrition at home and through their eating habits. As you know, a lot of these boys are most likely vegan or vegetarian and iron deficiency is pretty common there. A lot of these guys in my opinion usually are not very knowledgeable about the nutritional requirements needed by their bodies as a rising athlete and usually do not replenish the calories they would have otherwise extracted from meat however, can be obtained from proper consumption of raw fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds. In India, people automatically assume that if you're vegetarian or vegan, you happen to be healthy. Many of times these guys tend to go with local food culture and do not keep their sugar intake level in check. Do you guys ever do any info session with these boys regarding these issues and dietary habits in general?
govinda Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 hey ian do you think uamesh and varun have it in them to be world class

It's a 7-day camp rather than a full blown Foundation where we have access to the players more than once. But we cover a very short session on S&C for gym work. So we basically cover the key components (technique and fitness) that are the two most important factors in developing fast bowlers. The food intake (nutrition, supplementation, dietary requirements, vegetarian, non-veg, vegan, halal, protein, carbo, good & bad fats, calorie intake etc etc etc etc) we do not feel suitably qualified in advising, other than suggesting ways within S&C the players can get protein. Also, we have a huge age range and skill level, so we are mindful that elite performance as against basic 12 year old cricketers food requirements, are quite different. As we develop our offering we aim to cover technical, tactical, physical, mental AND lifestyle components to offer a complete holistic approach. At this point though, we are trying to make serious visible gains in the shortest possible time, to show what can be done in just a week.
rahulrulezz Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 I have had my issues with Mr.Pont with regards to Atul but this video really impressed me. I like how everyone in the video says that Mr.Pont encourages Pace with accuracy not just accuracy.
Vilander Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 lifestyle is a good area to focus, I wonder if there is some connection to the fast twitch fiber density in a body to childhood nutrition, al the bogus veggie by faith crap is causing poor nutrition as veggie nutrition balance esp protein needs lots of investment, nv protein is relatively cheap. Hopefully some new kids come out of this, who can sustain.

The key is creating that nutritional regime that will help you properly balance your nutrient intake and maintain that energy level. Many of these kids and their families are probably not aware of that which is a major concern. Hopefully these coaching camps can help them educate in those regards as well. Also, thanks to Ian Pont for the responses above. Wish you lots of success.
angelina22 Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 It is very good to know that you people are making an very good effort.
