It is pretty typical of our elders from India to do so as they often do the "walk in the park" in India I feel sorry for the man that he had to pay the price for it in such away. His intention might not have been bad, it's just his curiosity caused a stir among people and hence this reaction. I am not defending police here, who I feel, could have been a bit lenient here, but I do feel that it's not any racial crap which people would propose it as. Lol talk about Mindsets and generalization.This is racism no matter how you spin things .No wonder americans who are from india have this kind of mindset.

Stereotyping at its worst, ironically appearing in a thread about stereotyping. Every desi I know has bought insurance for their visiting family. Regardless, in this case, the entire expense for his treatment must be borne by the state (or city or municipality).

In this case a citizen made a complaint out of paraonia. It may not have happened in some parts of the country. Just google top 10 most racist states in USA.. Lists may vary a bit. But overall some southern states would feature in almost all lists. Google gave me results of surveys and data from "number of racist tweets" before the 2012 election. BS methods generate BS data. Is there any good evidence that structural, systemic racial discrimination against minorities by authorities or employers is greater in AL than in the NE?

It is impossible to conduct a survey that has a sample size large enough to make an accurate generalization. The only way such stereotypes can be made accurately is by considering anecdotal evidence. A lot of Indians I know do not bring medical insurance, while my friends of other ethnicity do. Obviously anyone would come to that conclusion. Also, this thread isn't about stereotyping. The police officers didn't harm the man for some quality he was assumed to have just because he was Indian. He was slammed just because he war Indian, not due to some characteristic (as far as I know - it is entirely possible that he was misbehaved with because Indians make more than police officers [on average] as mentioned above, but that is unlikely).

I have a desi friend here, she claimed that a Policemen pointed her towards his gun holster in New York Airport for not co-operating with them while she was struggling with her 8 year old autistic child and two other kids when they traveled to America on a holiday in 2004. I thought it was because of 9/11. But now my opinion is changing. Society is racist =========== 1. 911 phone call was made from a well to do area. He claimed that this man was seen yesterday too as well and claimed that He is afraid to leave his family behind 2. The person who received the call could have easily calmed the caller. 3. People are openly donating money to help the white cop. Police department ============ 1. It comes from the same society 2.The Police man clearly sounds pissed at the sight of a black man turning his back to him so he brings says "dont turn your back while I am talking or something". The claim by police to say that man put hand in his pocket now sounds standard attempted coverup. 3. Policemen got attitude and ego. You end up paying. A black president means nothing. America still seems overtly racist country.

America still seems overtly racist country. I don't think the society as a whole is racist. There are two sides to a coin, many Americans harbor no such racist feelings. A vivid example of this is how much they donated for this man's medical expenses. But unfortunately, these are a fair amount of people (some of whom have sneaked in to law enforcement jobs) who repeatedly tarnish the good reputation of the country.
