BlueBee Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Jadeda has been shyte so far. Axar should be tried ahead of him for the next match (Against UAE). Guy can atleast take 1-2 vital wickets and can give us a quickfire 10-20 runs.

In the tri series two matches we were in a position to launch but failed. World cup same problems in the first 2 matches. Sooner or later numbers 6-7-8 will be needed to deliver.

Most Aussie grounds are big boundaries, Adelaide have biggest straight boundaries, SCG is pretty big too, Gabba has big square boundaries like MCG. NZ grounds are smaller.

You're talking like all other teams are stacked with power hitters who will clear these boundaries with ease. Every team will have players who are capable and those who are not. On grounds like MCG its not necessary to smash boundaries, you have big open spaces in the field which would allow for 3's

Ashwin - Match losing ODI batsman - can't slog Better strategy is to aim less and take it as it comes. Cos this all out attack in the last 5 overs isn't working for us. His career S/R is 90! I think because of India's batting depth, he does not get enough opportunities to bat and polish his skills. He did not cross 15 runs in 70% of the ODI innings he played. He has crossed 20 only 10 times out of 52 innings, clear proof that he does not get enough opportunities. If you check most of his low scores, he comes into bat in the 47th or the 48th over where he gets scores like 8 (6), 5*(5). His ODI median is just 7.5 runs, his ODI averages are so deceptive due to the high number of not outs. He simply needs to bat more to become a better ODI batsman.

adi B Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 You need batsmen who can improvise in the last 5 overs & exploit the gaps in the field. Our hitters are one dimensional. Raina shuffles across and whacks over mid wicket. Dhoni either pulls or hits you straight over the bowler's head. These two are very predictable. Maxwell OTOH, can reverse sweep, dil-scoop, hit you over the head, make room and whack over extra cover or slog sweep you over mid wicket etc etc. Our sloggers simply don't have that kinda range. If you are a bowling team, you can pretty much tie our lower order down by bowling to a certain plan if you have done your home work that is. Our lower order should learn to improvise. Otherwise we'll continue to struggle against disciplined attacks. Couldn't agree anymore.we have guys like jadeja,raina,Dhoni who look to hit big in the final 7-8 overs rather than piercing the gaps,lets say like jayawardene would do.these are not 60-70m boundaries where hitting sixes is easy and the intl bowlers know the weak zones of msd,raina etc. Need to improvise big time

Dhoni these days not like that and even if he is, he is a number 6, so the game plan is usually bit different, responsibility. What we lack is a slogger at 7 or 8. I still feel one of the two spinners should have been replaced by Yusuf Pathan for example. Issue is lack of fielders in the circle make the part timer more useless. Yuvi for Jaddu would be interesting, but this is benefit of hindsight as Jaddu struggling since injury. And Yuvi kind of past it. Axar can bat but he is raw and most likely to get low scores here, almost seems a future flat track bully. Binny I have more confidence in but again look at his record, he is good for quick 20-30 at most. I agree with what other say, we should consolidate in first 10 overs v good teams and then accelerate up to the end of the game slowly. Forget all this final 10 overs crap slogging. I can't see us doing well at that yet...

Dhoni isn't generally very good at slogging as soon as he walks into the wicket. Dhoni is at his best when he gets a bit of time to settle in. Dhoni must bat ahead of Raina - Raina can usually belter the ball without needing to adapt.

Agreed but in last 2 matches just when he had hit some boundaries he got out so it wasn't really a case of not being able to hit.
