I have voted for Option "c" - Replace Jadeja with Bhuvi, because: 1. If Bhuvi can swing the ball, he can pick up more wkts (vs. Jadeja). Picking up wkts would be the key vs. strong teams as with wkts in hand, the teams can always accelerate 2. BD play Jadeja type of spin (bowl up if side boundaries are short; bowl short if straight boundaries are short) well. In fact, Jadeja and 6th bowler(s) could be at risk if Ind does not pick early wkts 3. There is a possibility of shower in Ind vs BD game, so again a medium pacer will be a better option with the wet ball (and in a shortened game) 4. Jadeja's batting form is unproven so far; Bhuvi has done well with the bat in the tests (against a good bowling attack) Basically, I will always pick bowlers who have a better chance of picking up wkts vs. those who would look to mostly contain .... Now, we know that Dhoni is likely to persist with Jadeja so hoping that Jadeja will bring his "A" game to the knock outs :nice:
U can't win knock out matches with 5 bowlers .Will put unnecessary pressure on the batsmen . We have won the CT and now all 6 group matches with this combination and suddenly in a world cup panicking and going with a untested combination will only harm No team has ever won a world cup playing 5 genuine bowlers .Can't win a world cup without an AR even if he isn't top quality

5. Bangladesh is filled with left handers which will make it difficult for Jadeja to exert control over them. It will be a challenge for dhoni on when to bowl him. I like this option especially for QF vs. Ban and then if we get through we can think of what to do at Sydney. normally I would like to not disturb the winning combination but teams like Pak are really benefitting for 4 man pace attacks
#5 is a good addition .... At SCG, if Ind is playing Pak, Bhuvi could again be a better option In the warm-up vs. Aus at Adelaide (where spinners got some help), Bhuvi bowled decently too iirc

The problem is Australian pitches rarely help swing and also Bhuvi did not score or bowl well in Aus tests or Carlton series.
If there is no swing, Bhuvi can bowl in Mohit's mold :dontknow:

The discussion is on because Jadeja has not performed that well :winky:

Thursday 19 March SummaryMin 18Max 31Afternoon change. A few showers. showers.png Melbourne area Mostly sunny morning. High (70%) chance of showers in the afternoon and evening. The chance of a thunderstorm in the afternoon and evening. Winds northerly 15 to 25 km/h increasing to 25 to 40 km/h in the morning then shifting southwesterly 20 to 30 km/h in the late afternoon. LINK
Showers are expected on Mar 19th at MCG ----> Ideally, 4 seamers + Ashwin should be the way to go Dumb decision on the team management to not give either Bhuvi or Binny a chance in one of the last two group games :hitler:

Too late to replace Rohit just hope he comes good in at least two of the three games remaining (IF India were to win). Ditto same with Jadeja, but Jadeja's out of form is hurting India more than Rohit being out of form So maybe better trying Axar

If Rohit can play for the first 10-12 overs and counter the bowlers of stronger teams, he would have done a decent job .... if he gets a 50 of 60 balls that would be a good job .... If he goes on to get a big 100, it would be a big bonus :woot:

If Jadeja does not click with the bat (which would make him another bowler), it would make sense to play the best in-form bowler amongst - Bhuvi, Binny, Axar and Jadeja, and ofc the decision should be based on what the playing conditions and opponents are

Looking at how spinners performed at SCG and depending up on the opposition (Aus most likely), Ind may even have to consider playing 3 spinners :dontknow:

Looking at how spinners performed at SCG and depending up on the opposition (Aus most likely)' date=' Ind may even have to consider playing 3 spinners :dontknow:[/quote'] It was more to do with the pathetic mindset of the SL batsman rather than saffer spinners. Tahir bowled well but not that well. If we had an attcking leggie, then we could have tried. but not when you have darters like Jaddu and Axar on the bench. This weakens the batting and the bowling. The SCG offered good bounce and it was a quick pitch. Yadav and Shami should be handful here.

Looking at how spinners performed at SCG and depending up on the opposition (Aus most likely)' date=' Ind may even have to consider playing 3 spinners :dontknow:[/quote'] Our bowling combo is the most balanced of the lot. It may blow hot or cold but its balanced. 3 pacers (out and out pacer, seamer and good death bowler, support bowler) 2 spinners (one attacking, one defensive) This is the combo we need to follow for even tests. The bowlers may change but the combo shouldn't. We should play to our strengths. In cases like playing in NZ's small grounds, we can make tweaks to our strategy.

Ideally Dhoni should have tried his reserves against Ireland & Zimbabwe so he is not going to make any changes .I think Jadeja is going to cost us against Bangladesh

Again just like Rohit,Jadeja is an integral part of this ODI set up,how much mediocre he may be.He has been in the world cup plans from last 3-4 years,he was never going to be dropped. As I said in some other thread, when Binny couldnt get a look in the Perth ODI's,he was never going to part of this line up in any other conditions.I will prefer Jadeja ahead of Binny as well.

In theory and generally, I agree with you. I like the 3+2 combo as it gives the team balance in bowling. Coming to this world cup - the bowlers have performed brilliantly as a unit against SA, PAK and WI. And the importance of playing a settled side can never be undermined. Now let's look at the other side as well. Jadeja has been good but is not consistent. Most often than not - he tries to pitch it up if the boundaries are short and vice versa. After bowling 3 full length balls, he anticipates that the batsman will charge down the wkt so he bowls it short. That's his modus operandi. Mohit has been our best option for the 3rd seamer slot. The truth is that he hasn't bowled that well consistently too. In fact, at times, when he is not bowling well, a wkt somehow falls and he is able to sustain the pressure. Now the question is whether to stick with the settled combination or go horses for courses. When it comes to bowling, I have Shami, Yadav and Ashwin locked in. And it is not like we have options. For me, Mohit will also be an automatic choice. Jadeja, since he is the weakest link at the moment, would be an open option for me. IMO, the bowling combination should depend on the opposition and playing conditions. A captain's job is to make things difficult for the opposition and easy for his team. For e.g. if BD plays Jadeja type of spin well, struggle relatively against pace, and if there are chances of rain, I would have no hesitation in considering playing either Bhuvi or Binny over the 2nd spinner. Similarly, if I see that a surface merits 30 or more overs of spin, and the opposition struggle relatively against spin vs. pace, I would not hesitate to play the 3rd spinner as well. And if it is a regular surface, then continue doing what you have been doing! So the question is why horses for courses vs. playing settled/winning combination. The answer to that can be explained by this example - Say you have the hand made Momotaro jeans worth $2000. That jeans could be your settled/winning combination but you would still need to wear a suit when occasion demands :winky:
