The Rohit-Jadeja Problem

There are a few threads discussing this as a sub-topic so it is a good idea to have a place where we can put all the ideas together. Before I start with the problem statement - Let me say that, IMO, "play the winning combination" is a statement drafted by someone who did not want to be dropped or wanted to continue playing his favorite players irrespective of form :P Problem Statement Rohit and Jadeja have not clicked to the extent to inspire confidence in playing them further. When it comes to Rohit, I feel that Ind has invested a lot in him in this tourney so it could be time to reap benefits. There is no replacement option of similar quality. Jadeja is an option that Ind can play around with. However, his bowling "could" (on paper) be useful at MCG and SCG. For some, Raina too can be a question mark vs. quality pace attack on relatively bigger grounds. However, Raina cannot be dropped as he was a key component in Ind's win vs. Pak and Ireland. His bowling is useful too vs. left handers, and is fielding is an asset. (However, the captain should think twice before accepting Raina's request for an umpiring decision review :P ) Solution(s) Below are the options that India has (assumption - rest of the team remains the same): a) Replace Rohit w/ Binny A good option on paper but Binny is not in the same batting league. Could put extra pressure on Dhawan and Kohli to play big knocks. However, this gives Ind an additional bowling option, and if he clicks a few quick runs b) Replace Jadeja w/ Binny There are not too many negatives to this option. Main points to consider would be a) bowling form, b) playing conditions, and c) the opponent c) Replace Jadeja w/ Bhuvi A very good option. Points to consider would be similar to option b. This option could in fact strengthen the bowling. Bhuvi is no rabbit with the bat either d) Play Rohit down the order; Open with Jadeja/Binny Jadeja/Binny has not proved to be a great asset with the bat so far. Open with him, if he clicks, great, if not no problem. Rohit can be used down the order where his big hitting skills could be utilized in the death overs e) Replace Rohit w/ Rayudu It could be a good option if Rayudu could bowl a few overs too. However, Rohit has the ability to play a long inning vs. quality attacks f) Replace Jadeja w/ Axar Ind could get a better bowler. His fielding is excellent as well. Since Jadeja is not batting that well, playing someone based on better batting skills may not be the key criteria here. However, better bowling is g) Make NO changes Play the winning combination (and/or in the same order) h) Other Something out of the box :dontknow: i) Doesn't matter what Ind does, it will still win the world cup An option for those who are absolutely convinced that Ind will win no matter what Discuss and the poll is coming up as well (don't forget to vote) :P Note Option(s) ----> "a" to "f", and "h" = Change Option(s) ----> "g" = No Change Option(s) ----> "i" = Neutral PS This thread is not about what Ind (or Dhoni) will do, but what you think it should do

There is nothing for us to worry about as per team. We are all set to play the same team. You have to remember that DHoni didn't change the team at all against Zimbabwe and Ireland, which were our 2 games where hey could have. So basically we are going with same team again. And I agree with Dhoni here actually. It is too late now. Also if he would have changed the team at last minute, he would have been putting extra pressure on players to perform if they want to seal their place. Right now, we are in good position that we already know which will be our starting 11 most likely and the players would feel comfortable going into the game. We have to stick with Rohit.

Imo They haven't Been that Bad It Just That Everyone In The Team Has Performed Much Better Has Made Them Look Worse Than They Actually have Been. I mean They Haven't Completely Flopped They have Still Contributed A Little bit.

I would prefer if he clicks against Australia either batting first or chasing. That's how we will win in semi. Shikhar, Virat, Rahane, Raina and Dhoni can take care of Bangladesh.

There is a reason why Dhoni played the same team throughout, except one game when he had to make a change. He is not going to change it now unless there is an injury.

How could we OPEN with Jadeja/Binny? They should have swapped Rahane and Rohits batting positions for the last two matches, seen how it came off. Stick with the same lineup now IMO

Opening with Jadeja/Binny is an option if Rohit struggles to get going and/or if Ind needs quick runs in the power play and want someone to go after the bowling asap

Some tims its not such a bad thing to have 1-2 players who are yet to click in a long tournament such as this . Am not a big fan of Rohit , but hes due for a big one . Jadeja needs to have one good day as well .

The role Rahane is playing is a lot more difficult one than Rohits . Sharma just dosent have the game to play in the middle order .

I have voted for Option "c" - Replace Jadeja with Bhuvi, because: 1. If Bhuvi can swing the ball, he can pick up more wkts (vs. Jadeja). Picking up wkts would be the key vs. strong teams as with wkts in hand, the teams can always accelerate 2. BD play Jadeja type of spin (bowl up if side boundaries are short; bowl short if straight boundaries are short) well. In fact, Jadeja and 6th bowler(s) could be at risk if Ind does not pick early wkts 3. There is a possibility of shower in Ind vs BD game, so again a medium pacer will be a better option with the wet ball (and in a shortened game) 4. Jadeja's batting form is unproven so far; Bhuvi has done well with the bat in the tests (against a good bowling attack) Basically, I will always pick bowlers who have a better chance of picking up wkts vs. those who would look to mostly contain .... Now, we know that Dhoni is likely to persist with Jadeja so hoping that Jadeja will bring his "A" game to the knock outs :nice:

patel vs. bangla. //jadoo vs. southafrica B->Change is not good always but as long as spin bowling concerns India should make change.Pakistan left out shah after he was hit 57 off 8 vs India and keep him out for next all matches. Jadoo and Patel both zero in bat , both good fielder, but axer Patel will be better choice coz nature of wicket in both QF and SEMI's favors slow bowlers.jadoo is not in form right now, in that case change is better for India if Patel walk in vs. Bangladesh.

The problem is Australian pitches rarely help swing and also Bhuvi did not score or bowl well in Aus tests or Carlton series.

5. Bangladesh is filled with left handers which will make it difficult for Jadeja to exert control over them. It will be a challenge for dhoni on when to bowl him. I like this option especially for QF vs. Ban and then if we get through we can think of what to do at Sydney. normally I would like to not disturb the winning combination but teams like Pak are really benefitting for 4 man pace attacks

on rohit he has not been that bad. he has handled the new ball decently but not gone on to play longer innings. plus it is not like we have chance there. Rayudu selection has been bad and he is not pushing for his place with his recent performances
