kthanksbye Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Hey the jolly folks of ICF, I have just joined this amazing place thriving with Indian cricket well wishers. I have been following this beautiful game and our team since the 90's and you can be sure that it has been a rough ride. From the lows of the 92 to the numbness of 96 and 99 to the topsy turvy of 03 to the heart break of 07 and finally to that blaze of glory. I have arguably along with all of us here seen a dramatic shift in the cricket world the signs of which were pretty visible by 96 which is India's hegemony in a way over the financial aspect of world cricket. That is what I wanted to talk about, look just like a country like US which is arguably one of the most powerful financial nation state, India is (and correct me if am wrong) the country with most financial clout in the cricketing world. And just like US is hated by most other countries Indian cricket team is heated and loathed by almost every other country. This might be attributed to many things including a simmering anger that is often at display between haves and have nots. Sometimes because of this we Indian fans get a lot of brickbats especially in forums like ours and other cricket fan forums. I have been observing especially the Pakistani and Bangladeshi forums and surprisingly more than the Pakistanis it feel the Bengalis hate us, reasons elude me. But whatever it is the hate that I see there is very surprising. Now with the upcoming QF fixture with them a lot of banter is happening in all forums and it is healthy. My request to all fellow Indian cricket fans is to control their angers no matter how justified it is and if possible leave the trash talks to others. I know that it is not your duty to do that but I just think silence has an amazing power and it shows that we are confident and not insecure. Let us be humble because the tree that bears the fruits is always the most grounded. tl;dr- Let us be humble and leave the trash talks to other forums.
cricketfan28 Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 somethings happen in heat of the moment .. lot of indian bashers here so trash talks are inevitable..
kthanksbye Posted March 15, 2015 Author Posted March 15, 2015 You seem to be a good writer. @Sachin=God. On second read I see a few grammatical inaccuracies that are a little embarrassing to be honest. Nevertheless thank you so much.
kthanksbye Posted March 15, 2015 Author Posted March 15, 2015 somethings happen in heat of the moment .. lot of indian bashers here so trash talks are inevitable.. I agree believe me I do and I do not expect that to change I just think we can be a tad better perhaps.
Sachin=GOD Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 @Sachin=God. On second read I see a few grammatical inaccuracies that are a little embarrassing to be honest. Nevertheless thank you so much. A few commas here and there wouldn't hurt :) On topic - I think generally its the Bangladesh cricketers and fans that do a lot of trash talk before big matches. Then they lose. As for Pakistani fans - they have been losing to India in every WC so some negativity is expected. Before every India-Pak match in WC they think that finally their mauka has come.....and after the match they have to put the pathakey in the cupboard.
sweetaskandy Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 No one hates you. Well almost no one. :cantstop:
velu Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 trash talk is fun :dontknow: and plain cricket discussion will be boring
profster Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Quality trash talk has its place. With Pakistan and India, there is a mix of respect, envy, love and hate. We have left them behind with our financial power and IPL. Bangbro fans are really something though. Loud, obnoxious, delusional and illogical. Haven't won a thing and will probably never win a thing of significance. It is rather sad actually that BD fans believe the BS they spout on the cricket forums.
Muloghonto Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 I think some level of distrust and distaste for Indian cricket teams comes from the inherent distrust and dislike people have towards monopolistic entities. Don't think for a moment that its a unique BCCI/cricket thing, I don't know much but two sporting entities are hated almost universally by its non-members : EUropean soccer league (UEFA ? ) by the Latin American teams and NHL by everyone else who plays hockey. Because there two are 'effective monopolistic entities' where the sport is so reliant on the money revenue in these markets that they end up being the 'sporting drain' of the rest of the world. IE, to be short (not my strong suite btw), just like how every tech engineer worth his salt wants to work in the silicon valley, every soccer player wants to make it big in Europe /hockey player wants to make it big in the NHL. Thats where the money, fame and most intense competition is at. BCCI, since 96 has shown distinct trends that the rest of the cricket world is mortally afriad of: total Indian hegemony over cricket. In a way, the overriding principles of economics make it a virtual inevitability: with cricket enjoying more popularity in INdia than anywhere else and India having a good 1 billion more people than the next major cricket follower (Pakistan), our fast rising financial prowess, etc. we represent the potential behemoth of the industry. Whether it would ultimately be good for cricket or bad for cricket is not easy to determine but one thing is for sure- if cricket goes the way of hockey or soccer, it would basically end up with high quality teams playing for Indian trophies with multinational players, with rest of the world being an overglorified feeder system to the Indian cricketing universe. Like soccer is to Europe, IceHockey is to North America. So other nations are worried. Ofcourse, BCCI weakens its position by not doing enough to produce the best team India can (as in, Indian cricket is simply not as efficient as Aussie, NZ or Saffie establishments in nurturing talent & developing a systematic well grounded team) but its also a matter of time India fixes itself. So if we come to a position where cricket is even more reliant on the Indian money and Indian team is a bona fide #1, then BCCI become very very powerful to the rest of the cricket world.

Texan Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Good OP and welcome to the forum! I am a fellow fan from the early 90s too. I agree that we should let some of the banter not get to us. I think competition and passionate fans are good for the game and healthy amount of good natured banter is great for a game. I think what does tick off some folks is when others try to degrade your country not in a sporting manner, but a deliberate inflammatory manner in order to elicit an angry response. This is especially truly when posters from other countries try to meddle in and degrade your politics when their countries are much worse. Anyway, some posts are just meant to be ignored. Welcome again :)
Temujin Khaghan Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Hey the jolly folks of ICF, I have been observing especially the Pakistani and Bangladeshi forums and surprisingly more than the Pakistanis it feel the Bengalis hate us, reasons elude me. But whatever it is the hate that I see there is very surprising. Now with the upcoming QF fixture with them a lot of banter is happening in all forums and it is healthy. . trust me lunkans and bangbros hate us a lot more than pakistanis. everytime a lankan is in discussion about cricket, he rises the LTTE issue. i dont know what is so great about a state sponsored genocide of their own population, when clearly India, China have backed the lankan army? just tell me how many times when india and pak fans fight against each other that kargil issue was rised. even the 26/11 terrorist act is all but a murmur now. same with bang fans. they keep harping about "respect" when their team keeps losing all the time. we try hard to keep it civil with these guys here, but i dont know if it some our posters or theirs provoking each other, you can see them here only after an upset win over india.
BlueBee Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Welcome aboard. From my experience, I've seen BangBros and SL's hates us the most. I like healthy banters but it's more than that with these guys. Pakis are good, TBH. They don't bring political issues into debates while it's the opposite with BangBros and SL's. Anyways, enjoy your stay here :two_thumbs_up: Cheers
Texy Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 We just got our version of Sensible Indian fan :giggle: :yay:
kthanksbye Posted March 17, 2015 Author Posted March 17, 2015 Thanks for all your replies. I just think that not just in terms of size and sheer numbers but even historically our role as a country should be of the grand statesman. An American flag is burned every day somewhere in the world but rather than feeling touchy about it Americans not just ignore but act almost indifferent to it because they know that most of that happens because they want your attention. I just feel we should act that way. Anyway thanks for this welcome. Stay Classy Folks !
