AmreekanDesi Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 I read somewhere that already a few of the successful indian origin families in the US have moved back due to the booming economy and a huge market to work with but do you think we wil lever see a situation where a large majority will go back home? why or esp why not?
Cricketics Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 No. It will never happen. Once you settle down overseas, very rare amount of people go back home permanently. I for one would love to go back, but don't know how long I would be able to live permanently as I haven't been back in a long time. I know that I can live there, but I would at same time miss U.S as this is also home to me so I would have a scnario of going back and forth but not living in a particular country permanently. Unless you really find a great job in India and just totally hate US/UK or wherever you live currently, it is hard to go back permanently. My permanent going back to me would be living in India 7-9 months and coming back to U.S every year for 2 months atleast.

Laaloo Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 It's tough to go back. I came to US when I was 10ish. Now I am 25. Most of my youth is spent in the US. But I still have a lot of Indian culture. So culture wouldn't be a problem if I decide to move back, it's probably a good job and the ability to forget easily. You see and get a lot of crap in India daily and its not the same in the US. That I would need to get used to.

If there is still "dikhawa" going on etc.

Just curious, as I am pretty much in the same boat and age too :)

Last time my dad complained about the heat but didn't really affect me. Spent a lot of time in the farm. I have actually contemplated a lot about going back in the past year or so because Surat has change a lot. Education has improved. It's a much better place to live than before. And frankly speaking, I'm tired of my tax money going to arabs and muslims and their kids who they cant feed but can afford to conceive.

As much as I enjoyed my high school life in US, my one regret always would be that I never travelled back home during the summer holidays, even once. However, again I don't have any regrets of missing Indian 11th and 12th, I think U.S high school was great experience.

I real would like to see India implement US way of having debates right before the election. I would love to see that. Since our leaders do so much campaigning themselves, how about also have a debate on tv live like they do here in u.s.

I could have spent that in India and could have had a reasonable transition of moving back if I do decide on day.
PBN Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 I reckon it is only in the first few years where the first generation usually decide to go back. Once you go past this window, the return to India diminishes exponentially for the majority especially once you have kids and get settled. The second generation are very very unlikely to go settle in India permanently. Anyways, Indians are going to other countries so have almost established mini india in various places :two_thumbs_up:

I moved abroad in my late teens and have lived there for nearly 15 years. In my initial years, India was my home clearly without hesitation. As the years rolled by, the lines between home and adopted countries got blurred. Both India and I have moved on since with changes on both sides - for better or worse is up to one's interpretation.

When I came back, I missed the lifestyle there and wanted to go back I see the free funda fun my friends have with no real time binding restrictions, It reminds me of this famous dialogue I have been hearing since I was a kid. We came to US almost every 2nd year and although these uncle and families had nice big houses, their only real get together was that Saturday party, where u play cards and drink. They said, 'We are living in a 5 Star Jail" This topic has been discussed here before, and not sure who said it - but it was perfect, we are like "Dhobi ka kutta.." Ideally I would prefer 6 months/6 months kinda thing
