It was because of that Pakistan qualified What about Pakistan's match against South Africa when they were left with a ridiculous target to chase due to the same rain rule when they were in a comfortable position during the chase?

Duckworth lewis was not implemented at that time and whatever rules were their for rain were ridiculous .also 74/2 in 21.3 chasing 212 is not sureshot victory as chasing 75

It's not a sure shot win, but Pakistan was definitely in the more comfortable position. And if the current Duckworth-Lewis calculation is applied they would have won the match against South Africa with their final score. The England game gave them the advantage of 1 point, whereas the South Africa game took away 2 points from them. Moreover, the England game would have been a No Result even under the present rules since there are no reserve days for league matches even today.

It was not against Pakistan. That 22 off 1 ball match was against England. Pakistan were lucky against England where England were 25/1 chasing 75. Pakistan would not have reached semi if that game was not washed out.

I was just calculating DL score and it is something about 178 (if I am correct),so it could had been a nail biter . I am not at all saying that it was all luck but England match was sureshot loss while SA match was 60-40 or 50-50.And in the present format league matches are not important as it were in 1992 WC.If that format is repeated then reserve day for rain is must

Nor were there reserve days for league matches in any of the World Cups prior to 1992. The only edition which had a reserve day for league matches was the '99 WC.

Equating a match where Pakistan were routed for 75 in reply to which Eng was 25/1 when rain washed away the match to a proper match which got completed under the then rules (which all parties knew of). There is no bad luck involved in Pak's chase, they had enough time to regroup and launch an attack to get to their target which they screwed up. Their captain Imran Khan was batting at a strike rate of round about 60 even after the target was revised.

To deny Pakistan is the most luckiest world cup winniner is just ridiculous.No other world cup winnner was that lousy team and still won.

A lot of people here need to have a life and get over the hatred. Rivalry is one thing, it's good, but when you start blindly hating you look bitter. It's almost as if some of you get a heart attack every time Pakistan is praised. I'd have very little reason to post if it wasn't for the irrational posts by a few here. Thankfully, I can proudly say that my fellow Pakistani posters are generally a lot better in this regard.
