Desi Cartman Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Last I heard it was illegal to handcuff some people who are under trial. This stupid ruling came from the court many years ago. logic being, a handcuffed person is looked by the society as a convicted person. Go figure

Currently our police structure is too decentralized and too poor. India does not have an RCMP/FBI type setup, where there is a fully functional police force with nation-wide jurisdiction. Instead we have a collection of state police forces who are woefully underfunded and under-trained. In this day and age, nobody should be professionally armed with a revolver or a rifle(unless he/she is a sniper).

What is the need for courts and trials at tax payer's expense when the Police can decide who is guilty and provide instant justice. What is the need for courts and trials when you can pronounce the judgement in an ICF thread?

Wellbeing of law enforcement and judiciary should be pretty much on even keel with educational and medical reform, if not above. You will notice that almost all successful countries (in terms of law and order) tend to value law enforcement & judicial budget before medical or education budget. I am not saying those things don't need help, but law enforcement and judiciary needs more urgent help than anything else, as its easy to rationalize but hard to quantify in concrete numbers the social gain from having swift dispensation of justice and excellent enforcement of the law.

Whatever form of government you advocate- unicameral democracy/bicameral democracy/autocracy/fascism/monarchy and whatever your leanings may be- left, right or center, police and justice department are fundamental services a government must render. Unfortunately for India and Indians, we have a poor record at nation building. A lot of the issues we have- corruption, terrorism, mob mentality, etc. are all readily fixed by fixing the justice department and the police department. Most successful nations, if you notice, may cut their defense budget but don't cut their justice and police budgets. We on the other hand are stuck in the 1970s, where we figure that better tanks/subs/aircrafts are more integral to security of our nation, when in fact, those things are secondary to a working justice and police system for national security. Those two are the first and last line of defense. The day Indian government will realize this, thats the day we will actually move forward.

A week after two SIMI activists shot dead three cops and left another battling for life, Telangana State Police on Tuesday killed five persons who were associated with SIMI and other radical organizations when they allegedly attacked their police escort while being brought to Hyderabad for a court hearing, near Jangaon in Warangal district, 100 kms away from Hyderabad. Among the dead is Vikaruddin Ahmed, who killed two cops and terrorised them in Hyderabad by targeting them whenever possible. Warangal Range DIG B Malla Reddy said: “These five were to be produced before the VIIth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge at Nampally Court in Hyderabad in connection with a 2009 case. The bus carrying them with a heavily armed escort left the Warangal Central jail at 8:40 am. At 10:30 while they were near Jangaon, Vikaruddin requested for a halt as he wanted to answer nature’s call. “Reserve Sub-Inspector Uday Bhaskar took off his handcuffs and took him out and when they returned he was about to handcuff him again when Vikaruddin snatched the AK-56 rifle that the RSI was carrying. However, the RSI managed to pull off the magazine in the scuffle but the four remaining undertrials pounced on two other policemen nearby and tried to snatch their weapons. The other policemen in the bus retaliated and shot them dead,’’ DIG Reddy said. The DIG also said that Vikaruddin and his associates, continuously incited the armed escort by spitting at them, taunting and abusing them as soon as they started from Warangal. The four others dead are Mohammed Zakir, Sayed Hashmat, Izhar Khan and Sulaiman. They all have several aliases. A former SIMI activist and member of the radical social outfit Darsgah Jehad O Shahadat (DJS) Vikaruddin made some daring attacks on police pickets on the anniversaries of Babri Masjid and Mecca Masjid blast. In December 2008, he opened fire and injured three policemen manning a picket near Santoshinagar. On May 18, 2009, he shot dead a Home Guard while on May 14, 2010, he shot dead a constable at Shah Ali Banda. Vikaruddin had started a fringe fundamentalist organization calling itself Tehreek Galba E Islam that has ties with DJS. Police had announced a reward of Rs lakhs for any information on him. He was arrested in July 2010 from the house Dr Mohd Hanif, a sympathizer. India does not give terrorists free pass, unlike pakistan who gave terrorists free pass for decades. Now they reap what they sow. The seculars and media are now doing exactly what pakistan did decades ago.
