Polio eradication in India is one of the greatest achievements in the last 67 years, something unimaginable at one point of time. Among my grandpa's generation or even my parents' generation many people had polio.

Heartening to know that the two nations can still help each other out. In India, polio vaccine volunteers have been beaten, had dogs unleashed upon them and few of them were even killed. If India is Polio free today, a lot of the credit goes to these volunteers (many of whom weren't even paid for it). The unsung heroes of this country. I think those who administer the vaccine in Pakistan too, would face the same set of difficulties. Hopefully Pakistan too would be polio free someday in the near future.

I have nver come across a story about how Polio vaccine volunteers were harassed like you said, in India. I have read a lot of articles how in Pakistan, people have been killed and discouraged when volunteers have tried to help people out in the tribal areas. Please share any articles about the same happening in India.

Now, the story in India is different from Pakistan. Terrorists think their identity will be exposed (like Osama) if they give access to Anti-Polio volunteers.

It needs to be administered to children across globe so that they reap benefits of human development. It will be a real sad thing to see a polio affected person in any nation when it is very easy to prevent it.

The Talibani medieval barbarians have no right to snatch away the life and happiness of an innocent child because of their perceived fears of spying by external forces. Salute to the brave polio workers in western Pakistan who are navigating the worst possible environment for a noble cause. :hatsoff:
