BeautifulGame Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Despite apprehensions raised by some BJP MPs about a proposed India-Pakistan cricket series, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is determined to break the ice with the neighbouring country through "cricket diplomacy", informed sources here said. "We have taken the decision to start a cricket series between both countries to improve our relations," said Modi on Tuesday during a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) parliamentary party meeting, a BJP MP who was present told IANS on the condition of anonymity. Soon after a resolution was adopted appreciating initiatives taken by the Modi government during its first year in office, Modi said some of the members have expressed concern against the series and that is why he was "clearing the air", said the source. Party lawmaker R.K. Singh, a former union home secretary, had raised apprehension over the issue in the Lok Sabha on Monday. Cricketer-turned-BJP MP Kirti Azad had also opposed the move. According to the source, Modi also asked the MPs to present a report to the people on a year's progress and works undertaken by the government in their respective constituencies. The initiatives will help in ensuring social security of the poor and vulnerable sections of the society, he said. The parliamentary party also commended Modi for his achievements during the past one year in office and a resolution was passed in this regard, the source said. The resolution appreciated the prime minister's efforts for enhancing India's image among the international community, the MP told IANS. Meanwhile, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said Modi also said that his government has come up with a tough bill on black money. Naqvi also said that the government's fight is not with the opposition parties but those who are spreading corruption in the country. According to sources, only Modi spoke at the meeting. When in Opposition consistently maintained we shouldnt play Cricket with Pakistan as its insult to Mumbai victims until Pakistan punishes Hafiz Saeed and Lakvi .Even protested against Pakistan women's team which came for World cup. I have no issue playing cricket particularly when we have no issue playing all other sports with them .Its always lways keep sports and Politics away . But what sort of u turn and hypocrisy is this by the Govt .Particularly when talking about being tough when Lakhvi is getting released .

Also, if its a question of cutting revenue then there should be NO relations with Pak. This thing about only asking for cricket boycott while other stuff (be it other sports or trade or people going from India to Pak and vice versa or India & Pak rescuing each other's citizens in Yemen etc) is happening is just stupid. If the Govt has no intentions of cutting off diplomatic ties with Pak then it has no right to cut off cricketing ties either.

This is just pathetic What is more pathetic is countless no. of games in sports other that cricket are being played between these 2 countries regularly. Their artists work in India, former players work as coaches or commentators etc. Pakistan made movies are screened in India. Then why just cricket. So it was a pathetic stance to begin with. We should have cut all ties after 26/11.

It doesn't make lot of sense but cricket does create a mass perception in the minds of the people. Absence of cricket between the two nation definitely works psychologically on both the nations. Import/export of some goods wont impact economy or perception as much. You gotta hit them where it hurts most. Not letting Pak play in IPL, no Cricket ties, asking other nations to not play cricket in PAK all together must have impacted them in few hundred $MIL. I know broadcasting alone must have cost them $100-120 MIL. Honestly I don't want to play cricket with them even now. Idiots on the other side of the border should be left alone. The nation who thinks that killing people on the other side of the border by terrorist attacks would bring their status with India on equal footing are simply idiots. Indians are respected all over the world because of our contribution to the society. This neighbor of ours does not contribute anything to the global society. Well may be some terrorism. but that's it. nothing else. They can try to be at par with us by - improving some of their laws stopping persecution of religious minorities economic growth providing education to kids providing basic health care to poor. and so on. We will naturally respect them. The entire world will.
