This settles it. /thread http://www.boxofficeindia.com/Details/art_detail/whichfilmsisabiggerhitoverallacrossindiabajrangibhaijaanorbaahubali#.VcOKe_lVg4I

Q. Which films is a bigger hit overall across India Bajrangi Bhaijaan or Baahubali? Ans. They cant really be compared as Baahubali was not made to work across India but in South India but people have liked it outside South as well so it has worked across India. It can't be expected that a Baahubali will score over Bajrangi Bhaijaan in Delhi, Punjab or Rajasthan and vice versa for Bajrangi Bhaijaan in Nizam / Andhra, Tamil Nadu or Karnataka. The all India GROSS will be similar for both films while the NETT will be higher for Baahubali as very low tax rate for it Andhra Pradesh where it has done best.

For the Tamil ICFers here - I am not sure if Prabhas and Rana gave their own voice in Tamil - they both can speak Tamil ( I have not watched Tamil version so don't know ) or it was dubbed. I am sure Satyaraj would have given his own voice and so would Ramya Krishna ( Ramya Krishna gave her own voice in Telugu ). Nasser sir gave his own voice in Telugu too. Anyway Prabhakar ( Kalakeya King ) had no such issues as he spoke his own language :P Prabhas and Rana in Tamil below :- In2_YamvOU4 QAge8M4dQbc

Nobody has commented anything negative on Bahubali's graphics :cantstop: .... just that there is more to a film than just graphics and Chinese films have achieved something similar (if not better) at 1/3rd to 1/2 the budget :winky:
So dissect a movie like Avatar and say compare it to a movie like let us say what's eating Gilbert grape.....in terms of performances, story, screenplay, charismatic actors etc. one can say WEGG as a way superior movie. Avatar had over-dependence on Graphics, a routine masala story...some run of the mill performances etc. But Avatar will be still known as a game changer while W.E.G.G will be a classic, Avatar will be a movie that was a trend setter,James Cameron is hailed a visionary....It is just as to what he envisioned and what he brought to the screen that matters. Good story and great performances always don't equal to trend setting cinematic experience Bahubali is a trend setter plain and simple....so you think projecting a cam print from a lap to to let us say even a 4K TV will make it better.....that made my day :hysterical:

Jai Mahismati :two_thumbs_up: Just like Bahubali, I am sure this is the biggest thread on any Indian film or indeed any film in ICF and still growing strong. Shows how much impact this film had on ICFers ( 99% positive but for 1% caused mental agony/heartburn/acidity/constipation,etc :(( )

It's ok....he probably bought a new Curved or 4 K Tv or whatever the most advanced TV was on the market, wanted to test it out by watching what is being called a game changer of an Indian movie, the most visually appealing and technically brilliant Indian movie of ALL TIME . So he connects his laptop with an HDMI cable to his new expensive TV,but unfortunately doesn't realize a Cam print will still remain a Cam print regardless  Hence the anger and frustration. He will get over it :two_thumbs_up:

Bahubali doesn't have biggest budget for single. Its cumulative budget is biggest. First part 130, second part 120. Ra.one's budget was 135 approx, rumoured to be 150 when it was released. Bang bang had a budget of 140 crores due to delays, it stretched from 90 to 140. Even if you take Salman's case, his films bar Bajrangi haven't sustained 2nd week. Ek tha tiger had 155 crore first week, but it could barely touch 200 crores. With that kind of start, it was expected to beat 3Idiots but it didn't, same for Kick too, same for HNY too. Hype and stars don't last after first 10 days. If a film has lasted a month and still going houseful means it has repeat value.
Lol this is what the OP says "This is the costliest film ever so far in Indian film Industry and stars Telugu Stars Prabhas and Rana Daggubati", so that is how it was marketed There is no such math. Movie industry is dynamic, there are a lot of factors including choice available at a given point of time

So now Bahubali is in Avatar's category :hysterical: ..... Earlier people happy to even compare it with LOTR, Troy, 300, etc. you have taken your delusions to the next level  First decide what it is - Is it Avatar, is it Ind's LOTR, etc. Well it is not hard to see where every scene was copied from even on a cam print!

It's absurd to say that films with little or no special effects can be enjoyed on a small screen as in a theatre. The close up facial expressions captured in so called art movies or non mainstream cinema is well appreciated only on a big screen.

Dude, I talk to people from film industry regularly and chat with them, I know how their maths works. It is all about maths, in fact. Releasing a film on 4500 screens is a part of this maths. It ensures even the worst film of these big stars will do enough to recover its cost because of first week as it might not sustain after that.

A bit torn today...watched Srimanthudu of Mahesh Babu - very good movie and with the craze that Mahesh Babu has, it will eat into Bahubali in Telugu. I really wanted Bahubali to get close to 550 crores gross so that all the people involved get motivated more ( not that 500+ crores is less but the more the merrier ). Srimanthudu will put a near full stop on Bahubali Telugu ( the main bread for the movie ). Tamil ICFers - how is 'Selvandhan'? I know Tamil Industry is violently split between Ilaitalapathy Vijay, Thala Ajith and Surya, Vikram, etc. I think only Rajni and Kamal are beyond this coterie. Mahesh Babu straight release in Tamil is being welcomed by Ajith fans in Social media as it is supposed to kill Vijay movies ( most of his recent big hits are Mahesh Babu Telugu movie remakes ). I don't track Tamil movies closely so maybe you can shed some light.

Nope, MB isn't a big name in Tamil or malayalam enough to disrupt something like Baahubali.

Telugu is a different story :((....There will be a few theatres showing Bahubali for 100 days in Hyd,etc but MB is massive here ( even though his last 2 movies dint do that well ).

Why is Bahubali's position so precarious in AP? Surely there must be enough theatres to support both MB movie and this? How can there be a washout? Are there other releases?

Not precarious. AP ( now you can say AP + Telangana ) has max screens in India and at one point, Hyderabad had maximum movie screens ( among cities) in India ( more than Mumbai ) - not sure about now as Multiplex + single screen, etc details are not available. Single screens died in Mumbai and also Hyderabad. Once another hit movie enters, theatres tend to favor the 'newer' movie. That is the only 'issue'. Honestly, I would have wanted Srimathudu to release next week...thats just my opinion though. Srimanthudu is a very good movie in its own right. Whatever Bahubali 1 made itself is mind-boggling. :two_thumbs_up:

Okay - Definitely there will be reduction in single screens, but I think there are many multiplexes that will continue to hold Baahubali good As for single screens, In kerala, usually what happens is that when a new movie enters town, and the existing one is still holding good, they get 'shifted' to an associate theatre, usually under common ownership, in the same place. These theatres are generally smaller, but this actually helps the movie to continue to play for longer time, since it will take more time usually to reach 'holdover' status. From what I understand, in AP/Telegana (Lets call them AP from cinematic perspective, can we :) ), theatres are rented for specific period by the distributors. So I am not sure what could be the arrangement here. Definitely I believe the movie will continue to hold good in main centers, shedding single screens in semi urban and rural areas.

The movie is playing 14 shows a day in four theatres just in Trivandrum, Kerala alone, nearly a month after its release. This is just INCREDIBLE! I don't think this has happened ever in history in Trivandrum. It has already grossed over 1.5 crores (and galloping to 2 crore) from just one theatre here. These are Industry hit numbers mind you!

Taran Adarsh #Baahubali [dubbed Hindi version; Week 4] Fri 1.60 cr, Sat 2.70 cr, Sun 3.40 cr, Mon 1.20 cr, Tue 1.10 cr, Wed 1 cr, Thu 1.10 cr. Total: ₹ 107.86 cr. ATBB. Expecting another 4-5 cr over the weekend - 120 crores looks like the upper limit.

But there are various factors that impact how long a film runs including a) number of choices available to viewers at the time of the film release, b) reducing number of screens esp. If competing with another major release, c) reducing ticket prices, etc. On top of that you hv laid out a number of conditions that makes Bahubali great. Like to be a great poster on ICF, you need your username starting with "r", include the word India in it, use two words separated by a dot, and based on these conditions, we hv rkt.india as the great poster .... Voila!

Watched Drishyam, and in terms of overall quality, it is better than both Bajranji Bhaijaan and Bahubali .... Even the songs are nicely done in a way that blends with the story Bajranji has a watchable 2nd half, while Bahubali is a modern day Roop ki rani Choron ka Raja I.e. A film made by coping scenes from various films set in a relatively lavish background
