I am always afraid that in his zeal to prove 56 inches Modi may decide to do something which may not be best option available to country. Pakistan is definitely not Myanmar and Govt is right in not treating them as the same. Warmongering is not best thing to be done by a government that's why even though attack on militants across Myanmar border may have been necessary yet not something which govt should boast about. Govt should boast only if they could achieve everlasting peace in north-east. Warmongering is an easy trick available for politicians to get masses behind you but should be used very judiciously.

Kalia_Test Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Not as high profile case but I am reminded of the statement by Obama after US commandos took out Osama INSIDE Pakistan. Obama gave a statement himself that they did it ( though he mentioned that Pak was informed ). http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2011/05/02/obamas-speech-on-the-death-of-osama-bin-laden THE PRESIDENT: Good evening. Tonight, I can report to the American people and to the world that the United States has conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of al Qaeda, and a terrorist who's responsible for the murder of thousands of innocent men, women, and children. It was nearly 10 years ago that a bright September day was darkened by the worst attack on the American people in our history. The images of 9/11 are seared into our national memory -- hijacked planes cutting through a cloudless September sky; the Twin Towers collapsing to the ground; black smoke billowing up from the Pentagon; the wreckage of Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where the actions of heroic citizens saved even more heartbreak and destruction. And yet we know that the worst images are those that were unseen to the world. The empty seat at the dinner table. Children who were forced to grow up without their mother or their father. Parents who would never know the feeling of their child's embrace. Nearly 3,000 citizens taken from us, leaving a gaping hole in our hearts. On September 11, 2001, in our time of grief, the American people came together. We offered our neighbors a hand, and we offered the wounded our blood. We reaffirmed our ties to each other, and our love of community and country. On that day, no matter where we came from, what God we prayed to, or what race or ethnicity we were, we were united as one American family. We were also united in our resolve to protect our nation and to bring those who committed this vicious attack to justice. We quickly learned that the 9/11 attacks were carried out by al Qaeda -- an organization headed by Osama bin Laden, which had openly declared war on the United States and was committed to killing innocents in our country and around the globe. And so we went to war against al Qaeda to protect our citizens, our friends, and our allies. Over the last 10 years, thanks to the tireless and heroic work of our military and our counterterrorism professionals, we've made great strides in that effort. We've disrupted terrorist attacks and strengthened our homeland defense. In Afghanistan, we removed the Taliban government, which had given bin Laden and al Qaeda safe haven and support. And around the globe, we worked with our friends and allies to capture or kill scores of al Qaeda terrorists, including several who were a part of the 9/11 plot. Yet Osama bin Laden avoided capture and escaped across the Afghan border into Pakistan. Meanwhile, al Qaeda continued to operate from along that border and operate through its affiliates across the world. And so shortly after taking office, I directed Leon Panetta, the director of the CIA, to make the killing or capture of bin Laden the top priority of our war against al Qaeda, even as we continued our broader efforts to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat his network. Then, last August, after years of painstaking work by our intelligence community, I was briefed on a possible lead to bin Laden. It was far from certain, and it took many months to run this thread to ground. I met repeatedly with my national security team as we developed more information about the possibility that we had located bin Laden hiding within a compound deep inside of Pakistan. And finally, last week, I determined that we had enough intelligence to take action, and authorized an operation to get Osama bin Laden and bring him to justice. Today, at my direction, the United States launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. A small team of Americans carried out the operation with extraordinary courage and capability. No Americans were harmed. They took care to avoid civilian casualties. After a firefight, they killed Osama bin Laden and took custody of his body. IMO, Modi could have made a statement ( not as elaborate - maybe a para or two ) telling the nation how these militants killed our armymen, how they were enemies of nation, how they escaped to Myanmar ( if that was the case ), how he authorized the surgical strike after taking Myanmar into confidence. He can finish by praising the commandos that did this with courage. It would have been the best way. - No need for chest thumping and embarassing Myanmar - No need for keeping our achievement down. Our Army needs recognition too. Pakistan would have got the message too but nothing that it can complain about. Kill the snake without the stick being broken :--D

Khalpat Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Cant even imagine the reaction of opposition' date=' if Modi did a televised address to the nation on Myanmar strikes:nervous:[/quote'] Well, a retired colonel and olympic silver medalist tried to do that in national media and see how much abuse he has got, just imagine a former chaiwallah saying the same. We need more time to make people mature enough so that they can keep their political biasness aside when the question is related to national security. Its good for armchair critics to give their opinion on social sectors, communal harmony, economic decisions as we have many info in the public domain for these things but for somethings like foreing diplomacy, national security, covert operation etc. it is better to have faith on the dilligence of central government, it doesn't matter who is in the centre the reason being we all have no or very little knowledge of the things which go on behind the curtains. We have no idea what Obama and Modi discussed or why Modi takes Dobhal in all his foreing trips. Rest sabko sanmati de bhagwan.

It is the means of the credit taking that is being criticized and that doesn't need details of the surgical strikes.
asterix Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 @ Khalpat.... Then do something to change the media narrative. Don't be a 'NAPUNSAK'....This Govt has majority in the house. has been a popular Govt. How the hell it can allow itself to be held hostage to the MSM? WTF are Jaitley and Rathod doing in the I&B Ministry? What steps has been taken so far to 'change the MSM narrative'? Or is it the case of a hapless ABV playing 'Goody-Goody' and getting removed for power by 'Secular forces'? Instead of bragging #56InchChest do these Jokers have guts or any plan in place to reign in these rampaging MSM groups? Sala Ambani owns NDTV and TV18... The most criticism against Modi comes from the news channels and media of these groups... Check FirstPost...At once you'll think that it's been owned by some Congressi fan.. Has anybody from I&B contacted Ambani and discussed these issues? I mean WTF? iNSTEAD OF BLAMING OTHERS DO SOMETHING EFFING "CONSTRUCTIVE"...

mishra Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 This is why I said my friend feck foreign diplomacy which has given us nothing in last 25 years. They should moove them away.
amiret Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 NDTV owned by Ambani??? In brief : Mukeshbhai has bailed out the Roys by lending a large sum to the their Holding company . And the terms of the loan agreement are such that he exercise a significant control of the company. He bailed out Raghav Bahl (Network18/CNN-IBN) long before he bought him out . Not a big deal. One thing is certain , NDTV is not funded by the Vatican (as some people have been insinuating for a long time ).

Unlike you I do not base my political opinions on the basis of which party did it. Congress party has been brilliant in many aspect wrt national security. The arrest of IM head from Nepal border could not have been done without Chidambaram and MMS efforts. I would go to the extent of saying that just after 26/11,the increase in bomb blast activities in Pak was due to effort of Pranab and Chidambaram. I never criticized any specific government I criticized the word used by you of diplomacy. My soldiers got killed army took revenge and it was advertised. A slightly different approach then previous years which must have been taken after foreign , home , intelligence, army officers consultation. Obama did the same and his country men including Republican supported him. We need to get out of comfort of room not everything can be found on internet.

But try to understand this is democracy and everyone should be allowed to express. We take MSM a bit too seriously , if MSM could have changed the opinion of people Modi would never have become PM. Let us not under estimate the diligence of Indian voters. We are a young nation it will take time but good thing is the next generation would be better than us and will be with its government if the case is of national security. I know you are getting irritated because of few comments here but don't worry these guys are rebellion in nature they will oppose just for the same of it. Have a pop corn and enjoy the show
