This is no discussion, a thread is just to measure what is the general perception of ICFer about the India political parties involved in corruption. Idea is to find who are the most corrupt parties. I have not added AAP because i think they are very new. This is a multiple option. Please only vote for 5 parties at most. Keep it clean :orderorder: AIADMK BJP BSP Congress CPI/CPM JDU NCP RJD SP TMC POLL IS PUBLIC

I voted NCP as number 1 you may want to eat money but only the NCP specialises in corruption. Ironically reform to increase the size of the pie and then be corrupt.

^ Couldnt agree more. But with the decline of SP, NCP will not be that influential. They are filthy rich in the west maharashtra. I get it. But with Supriya, the corruption levels will go down compared to what SP and AP had set.

The DMK i feel believe in corruption on an epic scale outside TN. Ie they believe in scams in central government. So they dont disenfranchise their constituents. DMK have been part of government at the centre from 1999 to like 2013. I dont think they have been involved in any major scams in TN (TN based posters can correct me). Secondly the DMK have a major self generating revenue source and media empire etc. People like the NCP BSP RJD SP etc literally **** where they eat. We also need to differentiate between run of the mill corruption and high end scams.

DMK has to be the undisputed king here. Despite being a regional party, they were involved in corruption of epic proportions on the national stage. NCP, BSP, RJD, SP would probably all be at the same level next as primarily regional players. Now, between the two national parties, I see Congress as more corrupt than BJP, though BJP is no saint either.

yeah i look at Karnataka and there is literally no difference between the Jd(s) BJP and Congress in terms of corruption, All the same. As you said BJP is less corrupt than the congress due to the likes of Modi. I would say this a much less corrupt BJP today then what it was in times of ABV. In defence of ABV he had to juggle some really unsavoury corrupt characters in his coalition. I somehow doubt Modi will be able to tolerate some of these regional leaders. Looks like he wont have to for 4 years or so...

And as GB rightly said, there has to be a distinction between small scale scandals and large scale scams. Whenever you put a bunch of politicians and bureaucrats together and mix in some businessmen, you are always going to have some graft in India. It is the large scale scams that hurt. For example, lets compare two scams that the Maharashtra UPA was involved in - Adarsh and Irrigation. While Adarsh got more media attention, it was actually the irrigation scam that hurt the people more. Less than 1% land was irrigated despite a massive budget and large amounts siphoned out. Farmers continue to depend on the weather and many of them have died under the burden of large debts. These kind of scams truly hurt the common man.

I think NCP would be undisputed king. Anybody who has ever lived in Maharashtra, particularly western Maharashtra would know how NCP has almost become a synonym of political corruption.

For parties with presence in TN DMK Congress BJP Amma(from 2001) Communists On a national level I don't any difference btw the regional parties like DMK NCP SP RJD etc .Only difference is DMK got plum portfolios in center becoz of numerical strength in 2004 election .So they looted lot more Only the likes of BJD JD(U) ADMK (Post 2001) seem exceptions to a small extent . From personal experience BJP and Communist politicians tend to have cleaner image compared with other regional parties in TN

Not sure what exactly is the meaning of corruption but if it can be classified into following four criterias: 1. Doing a favour for someone in return for kickback money (bofors, Yamuna Expressway, voting in parliament fav, Allocation of CWG contract etc) Congress BSP DMK JMM RJD TDP 2. Doing a favour for someone in return for spreading perception and crony capitalism (Adani contracts, Ambani contracts, Jaypee contracts) BJP Congress BSP 3. Doing a favour for someone in return get back some deal for relatives (UP PWD projects, Yedurappa deals, Purthy group, RG admission in cambridge, Pawan Bansal etc) Congress BJP SP DMK 4. Doing a favour for someone and in return asking for vote (like free electricity, TV, minority reservation) AAP Congress RJD SP BSP DMK AIADMK JD (U) SS

I used to grudgingly admire the NCP for their administrative abilities prior to that irrigation scam. That scam was like worth 30,000 crore officially. They have just raided the 16 homes of Chagan Bhujbal. The net worth of all his assets is 5000 crore. Where the fudge does he get that sort of money from? I personally had no issues with Sharad Pawar making money of his real estate company DB realty. Quite frankly the people who bought houses there paid for it with black money anyways. A bit of a thief robbing a bandit.

1.AAP is the most corrupt by a wide margin . Rest are similar . Shiv Sena = AIADMK = DMK = Cong = NCP = SP = BSP = TDP = AKALIS = RJD = BJD

With regards to the Sena, most of their corruption is like demanding protection money from shopkeepers. (many voluntarily do so, to keep gangs away) real estate and unions. The sena earns big via controlling the unions in mumbai mostly. Airports, ports etc the unions are Sena controlled. This is why the BMC is important to them. They dont do corruption within the BMC. However the contracts which the BMC hands out always end up with Sena controlled unions. These unions then place adverts in the newspaper Saamna at inflated prices. The profits from the Saamna is used to pay stakeholders (Sena partymen) and run machinery like cadre. However i dont think the Sena are involved in a mega scam. The Thakareys have been wise to be involved in 1000 plus small scams than one mega scam.
