zen Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 For the review, I hv broken the film in to two parts because they are contrasting to a certain extent: First half is average - it has some unnecessary sequences and yawn inducing songs such as "cuckdoo koo". Tactically too, the song is placed at the time when you are beginning to wonder if you should continue to watch the film, and you get hit with the song (in a way, you could even skip the first half) 2nd half is very good with some touching moments (from a message PoV as well) .... Nawazuddin and the kid shine. Om Puri makes a nice cameo as well .... Salman Khan is as usual. His role has shades of Forrest Gump Both the song "'Zindagi Kuch Toh Bata" and its picturization are brilliant! jwrCYAIdkeM Just based on the story, the film had the potential to be one of the strongest films of 2015. However the first half is like another Salman Khan movie that you just watch for time pass without much expectations (for a regular story, it could work like for Dabang). The 2nd half is very good and lifts the film, and it is also the more appropriate way to tell "this" story (if you had to choose b/w the two) The two contrasting parts highlight the dilemma the film maker was in - whether to make a "good" Salman Khan film or the "right" film as per the subject, and he decided to include both elements packaged in two parts. If he had made the "right" choice, may be he could hv turned this in to a brilliant film - i.e. one that has a chance of representing Bollywood at Oscars for best foreign film. Because of the 1st half, it "may" not be able to impress everyone Lesson for film makers is to not get too carried away with the masala formula. Don't keep unnecessary songs and sequences to increase the length of the film. Be precise, to the point and deliver "depending upon the story" I would recommend it for the 2nd half and interesting performances by Nawazuddin and the kid. The touching story reminded me of how an Ind family took care of a sick (and dying) Pak girl when she came to Delhi for her medical treatment For a change, the 2nd half made me look at Pak positively :vroam: PS The character of Chand Nawab that Nawazuddin plays is inspired by: YHPhR89-x3g ^ ....And Nawazuddin's Chand Nawab is also introduced in a similar way
