As I said you definitions are accurate. However' date=' Polygamy could fall in to civil liberties' domain for some, while for many it could be a morally unacceptable behavior or something that could lead to exploitation. Note that right to getting married is not being challenged[/quote'] Right to association is an absolute civil liberty - it's not subjective. I already told you that rights aren't some doses in limited quantity.

Again right definition but wrong application. Polygamy may not necessarily be clubbed with the Rights of Association Examples where rights of association may be applicable - Right to form or associate with terrorist groups Now people like me could say that is not valid; while someone like you may post the definition of rights of association and say that everyone has a right to associate themselves with the groups of their choosing

:wall: Please don't argue for the sake of it via Wikipedia, particularly legal matters. Right to association also includes relationships under the 14th Amendment which has been interpreted multiple times by the US Supreme Court. Roberts v. United States Jaycees 468 U.S. 609 (1984) There are many authoritative figures including (but not limited to) Alexis de Tocqueville and David Fellman.

It is clearly stated by the US Supreme Court t hat Right to Association encompasses intimate relationships including (but not limited to) marriage. Therefore, polygamy should be legal. QED

QED[/quote'] Rights of marriage is considered as exercised once you marry :P .... To re-exercise it, you would have to legally divorce your spouse In school environment, one could interpret whatever you prefer. Say for example Rights to Land Ownership - An individual would be allowed to own as much land as he pleases Land Law - In area 18765, you can only own a max of 10 acres Ra's Al Ghul - I can own as many acres as I wish in area 18765. I have interpreted the land law right through the right of land ownership. So ..... But, Area 18765 administration - Ra's Al Ghul your Application :fail:

I said Right to Association, not Right to Marriage.

I said Right to Association' date=' not Right to Marriage.[/quote'] And that I guess would change the whole context / crux of what I wrote :hmmmm:

:-)!! Let's legitimize them and give all partners equal rights by contract. Otherwise, the "woh" in the relationship lacks security. What I should've asked in the OP is "should polygamous and polyandrous marriages be legalized" !!
how would divorce work ? what happens to children ? am sure there are other critical issues i cant think of right now. Isnt that straight forward.

Actually is Polygamy banned under Indian laws ? I think if consent of 1st wife is obtained 2nd marriage is allowed .
Didn't realize that. Always thought bigamy was illegal with some specific religious exceptions.

It is illegal according to Hindu Marriage Act. Though, in practice there are many people maintaining multiple wives with consent from both spouses. Generally, the law is not applied if the spouse does not object.

Inheritance would be the single biggest legal issue in such a dystopian society which legalizes polyandry and polygamy. However, being a lawyer would be a good career choice there. :--D
