I mean looking at Saumya bat, it has been a long time (even Kohli took about a year to establish himself properly and his real performances came only after '11) the last person to be this good from the beginning for India was I guess Yuvraj in ODIs correct me if I am wrong. But I am happy for BD as well as a tad jealous to see them produce such a talent while I see Indian A team bat in Zimbabwe. Do you guys think that Indian's are missing out by not allowing raw talents (like Iyer) to be thrown in directly and going the more correct route of letting them mature before they are selected?

I mean most teams are not performing well outside home if you look at cricket in the last few years then why expect BD to do it? On top of that it is not like most countries offer them tour anyway so it is not entirely their fault, I think.
HippoSucks Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 He could come in for Rayudu/Rahane (even for that it might be too early) but he is an opener and I would definitely not replace Rohit or Dhawan for him. We have to see his performances outside of Bangladesh first (and just see him bat more in general, considering that he has only played 16 ODIs so far. In the 4 ODIs he played during the World Cup in Australia he did not do so well (he averages about 30 there).

On top of that it is not like most countries offer them tour anyway so it is not entirely their fault, I think. In ODIs the tops teams are expected to win many matches outside of home. For example the ODI World Cup has been won by the hosting country only twice (India and Australia). It is not like test matches where most teams are very weak as soon as they step out of their continent. Even if certain teams as a whole can not perform away from home, good batsman themselves should definitely be able to do well overseas.

Pointless ODI series, Many tests, IPL.. schedule is so cramped that they just progress systematically like we used to. I still think we have array of talented batsmen in the line up. Just they they need some space to grow as a batsman.

But its still early days for him, once he plays a season or 2 and the other teams analyze him, let's see how that goes. Fans can sometimes get carried away with the flavor of the month, we have quite a few quality bats. If you want to be "a tad jealous", think about that skinny young pacer who's been doing really well for them - I hope for Bangles sake he doesnt go the Irfan Pathan or for that matter, the Mashrafe route. That's what our team is missing - a second and third wicket-taking seamer to back up Bhuvi.

tweaker Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Soumya has converted his talent into perfomance.I had also read that Litton Das is the next big Bangladeshi batsman.If he also starts performing,supported by Shakib,Tamim,then Bangladesh can win anywhere.Now Bangladesh has a core of very good team with wicket taking bowlers like Mustfuzir,Reubel,Taskin etc

adi B Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Morkel,abbot were smashed throughout the series,as i said pace on these pitches sits on the bat nicely.these pitches are nightmare for the fast bowlers.wahab,umesh,morkel,abbot,junaid all gotsmashed and Dhoni of all captains take a dig at his premium fast bowler who was the most successful in the wc . This thrashing of the saf bowlers should put things into perspective
