The report also says that Nigeria will replace the US as the world's third most populous country by around 2050. Africa is expected to account for more than half of the world's population growth over the next 35 years. The current world population of 7.3 billion will reach 9.7 billion in 2050 and 11.2 billion in 2100, it predicts. The new projection has India overtaking China's population six years earlier than previously predicted. The reports says half of the world's population growth between 2015 and 2050 is expected to be concentrated in nine countries: India, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Tanzania, the United States, Indonesia and Uganda. The populations of 28 African countries are projected to more than double, and by 2100, 10 African countries are projected to have increased by at least a factor of five. "The concentration of population growth in the poorest countries presents its own set of challenges, making it more difficult to eradicate poverty and inequality, to combat hunger and malnutrition," said John Wilmoth, Director of the UN's Population Division. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-33720723? We all now it's going to happen, but these constant reminders do make me question the steps we are taking to counter this problem. Rich Indians have low child-birth rates, the poor are breeding like rats... and if it continues like this for another decade, things could get real ugly. Have we reached a point where we need strict one or two child laws?

Today, population control is not even discussed as part of national policy. It is not all glum though. The 2011 census showed slower decadal population growth than any census post independence. This trend is likely to continue. States that have high literacy have shown that their fertility rates are declining. The states that are lagging behind the most (UP, Bihar) are states with low literacy. So, perhaps calling for a strict law is not necessary. Improve literacy and you will see fertility rates dropping.

During independence Muslims were some 30% in that district and Hindus 50%. Now they are 2/3rds in terms of number. Another genocide coming?(remember Mapilla rebellion?)

In West Bengal 25 years. But in many urban pockets(throughout India) you will dominate much sooner. Rest of India me kaafi time lagega. The thing is Muslims vote in unision unlike casteist/selfish Hindus. So their collective voting power is very strong. With 30-40% presence your ilk will become unstoppable.

If we can continue with improvements it could get to replacement rate in a decade. Ofc our urban population will continue to explode and it will require a gargantuan effort to fix the adjoining problems.

Gollum Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Last 2 generations effed up pretty bad. These days in rural as well as urban areas, at least non Muslim families don't have that many kids. In our family, my grandparents, parents have 5-15 siblings but all my cousins are single children with the exception of a couple.

Actually internet, tv and literacy have changed dynamics totally. fertility rates throughout the world have crashed and india is no exception (with many states' TFR below 2). (Population will rise still for a couple of decades more atleast since more women will be in child-bearing age) Btw, literacy at the age 13 years is said to be 95%. So, younger generation is literate (as per the records atleast, I doubt they are given practical know-how like english, operating PC, online banking etc)
