adi B Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 This is pathetic from BJP. http://indianexpress.com/article/india/india-others/bjp-takes-u-turn-on-land-bill-agrees-to-bring-back-upas-key-provisions/ Yeah, seriously disappointed, major climbdown by a party which has an unprecedented majority
Detonator Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Actually what MMS proposed back in 2013 was good enough to start with. BJP may bring remaining six as amendments in future. But off course, It gives wrong signal to opposition that BJP is week. Why announce the amendment in the first place, which lead to unnecessary backlash. BJP failed to explain whether the amendment actually benefits people. Right now they are going 2 steps back for each step they are making.

They have no experience of how to pass laws on floor of the house. Or how to make law
asterix Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Yes' date=' Really  for BJP. They have no experience of how to pass laws on floor of the house. Or how to make law[/quote'] No experience can't be an excuse... There are many seasoned politicians in the ranks of BJP. I think what harms BJP leadership is overconfidence and taking things for granted. Modi and his team started very well, but they've not been able to congress moles in various levels of Govt. and have not been able to allocate ministries or responsibilities properly. On top of it there's RSS interference... Leave Modi, Shah has been disappointing. He should be the henchman along with Doval to sort out the opposition using IB & CBI. They've to do this dirty job. They cannot wish to continue like this having Congress moles everywhere and hope for the best.. Modi has unfortunately transformed into a Pucca traditional PM focusing only on External Affairs (extensive tours FFS... He needs to slow down and focus sorting the internal issues). People are getting used to his tactics of ROARING in Rallies and becoming a silent CAT remaining time...
Sachin=GOD Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Yeah' date='seriously disappointed, major climbdown by a party which has an unprecedented majority[/quote'] Yeah. Spent so much of political capital in fighting for what they wanted, even brought ordinances so many times and in the end it seems they will pass the Cong version. Disappointing. It's not even a middle ground position between Congress' version and BJP's version of the bill - its mostly Congress' that will come out of the committee.
G_B_ Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 people need to read between the lines. Modi has withdrawn the land bill and its amendments for now. It is to make sure the Congress plays ball with the GST. It can easily be brought back again post 2016 RS elections. Modi needs 2/3 members of both houses for the GST. This is not a u turn it is a strategic climb down. Post the GST the joint session will be the avenue to get both land and labour bills through. BJP ruled states are already pushing ahead with their version of the land bill http://indianexpress.com/article/cities/mumbai/land-acquisition-maharashtra-offers-a-sweet-land-deal/ If the BJP win UP and Bihar 50% of India population and more than 50% of its landmass will have the land bill which Modi desires at state level.
G_B_ Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 and just to re iterate you can have land acquisition and labour laws at state level. Rajasthan shows way in labour reforms RAJE Govt: Clears amendments to Industrial Disputes Act, Contract Labour Act, Factories Act http://indianexpress.com/article/india/india-others/rajasthan-shows-way-in-labour-reforms/ http://www.business-standard.com/article/economy-policy/president-okays-rajasthan-labour-reforms-firms-with-300-workers-need-no-govt-nod-to-sack-114110801356_1.html Official estimates show around 85 per cent of factories in Rajasthan employ less than 100 workers. The move would generate 1.5 million additional jobs in the state, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje had said. You cant have GST at state level. The GST is the more important bill than Labour and Land. Its much harder to pass. Modi government is rightly looking to pass it and focusing their energy on the said bill.
Malcolm Merlyn Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Agree with GB.GST needs constitution amendment and hence cant be passed by joint session.Land bill and othees can be. Congress is losing more and more support.Sonia and Rahul will finish them.Hopefully.
adi B Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Goodpoints geebz.as I said bjp will pass their version of laws and make necessary amendments come 2016 ,with maha, jharkand in the kitty ,hopefully bihar and up as well. Bjp are here to play a long innings(at least 10 years in the centre) and it'll take time to have it their own way
G_B_ Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Its not just that. See even for joint session the BJP cannot count on the Sena and the SAD as both are against the land bill. Even big sections of the RSS are against the bill. What they will do is wait for 2016, Post TN assembly elections AIADMK's 13+37 members will help the BJP push the bill through in a joint session with ease. AIADMK are not going to vote for a bill so close to election time in TN. The GST also appears to have a hard deadline of April 1 2016. Other bills dont.

But off course, It gives wrong signal to opposition that BJP is week. The land bill amendments are good. Ask any farmer. We have some 22 acres of land in Haryana. Ever since they brought in the land acquisition bill, I am worried as many industries are coming up in our area. We can't afford to lose our land at any cost. These amendments are good and kudos to Congress for sticking to their stand.

I get your point but in such a situation BJP shouldn't have spent so much time and effort on LAB. They brought ordinance 3 times IIRC. And now news coming in that suspension of MP's will be revoked by speaker tomorrow - again, what was the point in creating so much of hostility with Cong just for one day of suspension? Either don't suspend them or if you have done it, then don't climbdown in just 1 day and revoke it when opposition parties put pressure. BJP made so much of noise over LAB and now they're softening their stand. Same with suspension - with this suspension they gave such a strong message that enough is enough, no more drama from Cong will be tolerated.......and now they're going to revoke the suspension. This sends a very weak image of the Govt.
asterix Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 ^ U-Turn on Suspension? What going on with BJP? Appears to be headless chicken... Only today they had a Parliamentary Board meeting... This is what happens when you catapult a CM to become a PM He/She will get overwhelmed, inspite of the usual bravado... Modi doesn't looks like in-charge of the situation...
Sachin=GOD Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 800+ porn sites banned yesterday. Today after lots of outrage on social media, Ravi Shankar Prasad has said that all sites, except those that have child porn, will be unbanned. Good, sensible decision to react to public pressure but once again, as in case of LAB or MPs suspension, shows that they didn't properly think through while taking the decision to ban 800+ sites. Now they are in Govt - they HAVE to properly weigh all the consequences before taking any decision even if means taking a little more time. They can't just arbitrarily take decisions and then climbdown again and again when public/opposition parties react. Another example of not thinking properly before taking a decision is FTII - everyone knows that Gajendra Chauhan is not good enough for the job. Even within the BJP there are far more qualified film personalities who could have done the job but just because the Govt didn't think properly (or worse still, gave in to RSS pressure), they have created an unnecessary controversy.
mishra Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 I think someone must may be mincing Amit Shahs nuts.. All this U turns are unexplained.
Khalpat Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Modi has to certainly think about restructuring his team. Till now, the portion handled by Ajit Doval and Suresh Prabhu only seems to be working in a better than expected way for all other areas he needs more competent people.
asterix Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Pappu now mocking BJP that it ran scared after the U-Turn on LAB... Is BJP doing all these things on purpose to keep Congress relevant? Or is it incompetent?

Things would magically happen? If that was the case you need to lower your expectations. Its all part of the game. When the BJP came out in praise of the land bill it was in part to guage the mood and also see where their allies stand.

Let it go to my children. I believe Modi may have a clear conscience and this may work as long as he is PM. But these powers were open to abuse. I think government needs to come up with some lease kind of arrangement. Where landowners should own the land but government can buy a long lease and pay regular rent. Idea is to pass on the problem of land grab go few generation down.
