'Rohit brings flair at No. 3' - Bangar, (To be Moved To Jokes Section-G_B)

In this series, which scenario would people prefer: Pujara playing all 6 innings and making 25 (60) in each innings (assuming the openers stayed in long enough so Pujara seeing off the new ball with his slow innings isn't required) or Rohit making a match winning century and getting 10 (20) in the rest of the 5 innings? Rohit has played 19 innings and just 2 at home. He definitely deserves more chances. However batting at #3 is not the right position for him. Rohit at #5 in the subcontinent is much better than Pujara considering his form right now.
Nohit being this supposedly hyper fast scoring batsman is a myth. He scores quickly only in T20s. He scratches around in ODIs and is as slow as any other average test batsman. Nohit's strike rate is 51 as opposed to Pujara's 49. Not much difference there. Nohit averages 39 in tests. Pujara averages 47. Pujara has a penchant for scoring daddy hundreds. Out of his six centuries, four have been 150+ scores. Four match winning, one draw, one loss. Pujara scores a century every 8 innings. Nohit scores one every 10 innings. Can't find any benchmark where we can clearly see Nohit outperforming Pujara.

Yep scratched his way to 2 200's ....also that boring and god awful 100 in the QF which prevented us scoring 400+ the way that game was progressing :headshake:

Laxman's SR in tests is 49. That doesn't mean he is a slow player in Tests. He was a fluent run maker in that format. Sanga's SR in tests is higher than SRT. That doesn't mean he was a more aggressive Test bat than SRT. Amla's ODI SR was higher than Warner all this while (only now Warner is a few decimal points ahead). Doesn't mean Amla is more aggressive. Or Amla is equal to Warner in aggressiveness. Career SR (if the difference is not extreme) is not a reliable indicator. Pujara makes up the SR when he scores big. But when he scores low, he scores slow. Stats sometimes can mislead. Of course, this post is not in support for Rohit's test spot but talking about the point you raised.

What current form ? Pujara had a better series in England Australia and even in the warm up in Sri Lanka . Pujara has a great record @ 3 in subcontinent over a long period against quality opposition . What has Rohit achieved to be picked ahead of him ? How does failure in 12 tests merit selection ahead of Pujara? Frankly leave that all to one side .Kohli Shastri and Co wants to bat him at 3 .Do u think he has the technique or record to bat at no.3 for India. As for Rahane leave him at 5 where he has stupendous record play players who are good enough so that he is not led stranded .Definitely the solution is not moving him to 3 and having a tail that starts at 5
Since 2013 both Rohit and Pujara have similar performances. Both of them got some starts and a few fifties but no centuries. So their form in these overseas tours has been almost the same. The reason I am siding with Rohit is that he hasn't gotten many chances in the subcontinent. So while Pujara works on whatever issues he is having, it is better to take a risk with Rohit. Most likely he will not do any worse than Pujara over the next few series. In general the best batsmen of the team bat in the top order. In that case neither Rohit or Pujara on current form should bat at #3 (and Rohit isn't technically good enough to bat at #3 against quality opposition even if he is in form). If Rahane is best at #5 then Kohli can be moved to #3 instead. Anyway that is for the selectors to decide. For me Rohit should be in the team for now (while Pujara regains his form) but not at #3.

Nohit's technique is atrocious for test level.just answr in a simple yes or no' date='is nohit's technique and temperament good enough to survive in test cricket(don't mix any other format, just test cricket!!)?[/quote'] From my other post Outside of the top order I do think Rohit can succeed, at least in the subcontinent.

I wasn't emphasizing on their scoring rates, but since you mention it, in general Rohit does bat faster than Pujara in test matches. sensible-indian-fan posted a clear explanation so no point in reiterating why strike rates aren't entirely accurate. Neither Rohit or Pujara have scored a century since 2013 so that is irrelevant for now. However Rohit hasn't gotten a lot of chances in the subcontinent so it may be worth the risk of playing him over Pujara for now.

Rohit himself is not in any form. He has flopped in 5 consecutive foreign tours. This is 6th.Already a failure registered. Atleast Pujara had his moments. He did have a county outing. http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=1;filter=advanced;home_or_away=2;orderby=runs;player_involve=49752;spanmax1=13+Aug+2015;spanmin1=13+Aug+2013;spanval1=span;team=6;template=results;type=batting Rohit has worse average than Binny, Ashwin, Bhuvan. and equal to Jadeja . He scores runs against West Indies. That is a given. We cannot pick a player who shines against just one side that too at home. Pujara is a safer bet in the long run. Rohit is a lottery batsman who can never be trusted all his career given his flawed technique. The funny thing is he has scored mere 389 runs over a span of 5 series plus 1 tests. he has hit 7 sixes second highest after M Vijay lol. That kinda underlines why he fails more often than not. His game is risky cricket. If it comes off with few lives he will look absolutely fabulous. But how often that is going to happen.

Yeah but he has flair and its only a matter of smelling th coffee :cantstop: Cant believe we are playing him at no.3 in a country where he has Chris Martinesque figures even in ODIs :wall:

Pujara isn't going to be successful at #3 with this form either. He hasn't gotten a century since 2013 and while he didn't play much in the subcontinent since then, he still got many chances on flat pitches. It isn't about accommodating players but picking the best players at the correct batting position. Even in the subcontinent both of them may not do well right now at #3. However Rohit will most likely do better than Pujara considering their current form. So if Rahane bats at #5 he doesn't face many deliveries and has to bat with the tail but if he bats at #3/#4 then he has to face the new ball which is also an issue?
Rohit averages 22 in last 10 tests. He failed in warmups too. Pujara might not have scored big but he always puts a price on his wicket and is never going to throw it away.

I saw him throw it away quite a few times in the last few tours - there's a reason why his away avg (apart from SA tour) is so poor - technical deficiencies are only 1/2 of it. Neither Nohit nor Pujara are the long-term solution.

Both Rohit and Pujara average around 25 in 2014. http://www.howstat.com/cricket/statistics/players/PlayerYears.asp?PlayerID=3826 http://www.howstat.com/cricket/statistics/Players/PlayerYears.asp?PlayerID=3474 Neither of them is in good form. However Rohit hasn't been given a chance in the subcontinent while Pujara has played many matches there (and has done well). So what is the problem with taking a risk for a few matches and giving Rohit a chance to see how he does in the SC? I'm not saying that Rohit is a better option that Pujara in the long run. Personally I do not feel either of them are good long term options but Pujara is definitely much better than Rohit in that regard.

Amen to that. There are other promising batsmen who, in the future, will hopefully fill that crucial position.

Very typical of Bangar to say so - another FTB at home (avg 48 at home' date=' 15 away) just like dear Nohit.[/quote'] Banger isnt a flat track bully regardless of what stats. His knock @ headingly was on of the best knocks ever played by Indian overseas. On par with Rahane's Lord's 100

Can you name even 1 other knock apart from that one? The diff in avgs is pretty revealing. All that one hears from fans is how awesome Bangar/Rahane was, but they completely overlook the fact the series comprised of 4-5 Tests and not just 1 innings. If one wants the definition of a genuinely successful tour, it ought to be VK and Pujara in SA, VK and Rahane in Oz.

You have to account for the fact that by the 4th and 5th test in England we gave up. Even Vijay and Rahane were playing like tailenders. It wasn't because of their quality but the hopelessness that was created. Sometimes it happens. Stats don't tell everything always. Rahane's knocks in every other country proves that he can play. Plus he was super solid till 3rd test. Now question is whether he can play spin on rank turners.

I said he isn't is a flat track bully . Sorry but what are u going exactly about 4/5 test series when he never played such a series ? He had a excellent tour to England another good series in India and a poor series in Nzl and left out .The same series in which Ganguly averaged 7 and Laxman ave 6 . How exactly that define him a flat track bully ? He was if anything unlucky with selections
