Rohit is best at No.5 or No.6 - playing Laxman role Now - let us look at 2 scenarios 6 batsmen scenario 1,2,3 - Need to choose from Dhawan, Vijay, Rahul and Chepu - one misses out 4- Kohli 5 - Rahane/Rohit 6 - Rohit/Rahane 5 batsmen scenario Now it does NOT mean the No.6 batsmen gets dropped. NO. Anyone from 1-6 can get dropped depending on form and other factors like fielding/bowling,etc. Chepu is not a great fielder, does not bowl and this goes against him. Make no mistake - I admire Chepu but there are only so many places in playing X1. Dhawan is the only lefty and doing OK. If we go by the forum sentiment and assuming Dhawan was NOT injured after 1st Test. Vijay - He was the original choice - unfair to drop him - he should play Rahul - Young Talent - Need to encourage - he should play Dhawan - He scored a TON in 1st Test - you must be mad to drop him - he should play Chepu - Poor fellow - great technique - failed in recent matches but he is Dravid - he should play Kohli - Captain should play I guess Rahane - Kidding me - he is IN So where is the 5 bowler theory without even naming Rohit who deserves his chances too?

A batsman of his talents should have averaged minimum 60-70 with many more great contributions in 4th innings chases. Don't think anyone else except sanga comes even close and no one has proved that anyone else can do it either.

If one looks at the years after 2011, I'd say that he definitely played on for that 100th 100. If he was truly not influenced at all by them, the WC win would have been the perfect time to bow out. But, SRT definitely underachieved in Tests (along with Lara) and should have averaged close to 60 - he came close to this in 2002, and was pushing 57 even in 2011.

It's the timespan that matters more, since players from earlier eras did not have that many Tests to play. By this yardstick, many of the English greats (Ken Barrington and Hammond for instance), Sobers and of course Bradman also did remarkably well over a long period.

From 1 Jan 1993 to the end of WC 2011, he played 157 Tests in 18 years and averaged 59.41. Phew! :hatsoff:

Moves like a 65 year old man. Those knees of his are worrying. Was hoping he'd be the next Dravid, but he's turned into Mohd Kaif. Nonetheless, he does deserve a few games at home.

Kaif was amongst the top 5 fielders ever from Ind. Chepu is not close. However, he is a far more accomplished bat, at least on home pitches.

Also, people bash Kohli for Anushka affect, but not many have noticed how marriage has changed Pujara. He looks and walks like an uncle now and even that hunger and determination in his eyes has disappeared. I think he is well on his way to settle down as a family man, that comes naturally to him. Being an unforgiving athlete isn't his cup of tea imo.

Lannister Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Even with an overwhelming average in SC, the way he was getting bowled in England confirmed that he has serious technical issues. More than Kohli it was Pujara who got exposed. Sadly, he's not the solution for number 3 position. He should go back to domestic and get some confidence, should withdraw from county ****.

It will take multiple injuries I guess...

What we need is an injury to Nohit, Kohli or Rahane for Chepu to get a chance.
