jf1gp_1 Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 whats with these melodramatic-conspiracy post ? Are you telling me that kohli who just took over as captain would rather lose test match by playing Rohit than Pujara who might become captain hence Kohli is destroying his career ? In Australia even Raina looked a better option than Pujara thats how bad Pujara was playing however NO his career is not over. He will play 7-8 more years for India.
Gollum Posted August 22, 2015 Author Posted August 22, 2015 Knowing Kohli's preferences - Chepu' date=' Vijay and Ashwin have to play out of their skins at every given opportunity to ensure not getting sidelined.[/quote'] Also Rahane

Pujara was not playing bad at all. He always got starts had a 50 too but wasnt able to convert those into big scores. Raina did play one test and got pair. I will take Pujara any day over Rohit and Raina in test cricket. Pujara also helped us draw one of the test match when batted at 6 along with Dhoni. I think It was MCG test.
PSB_Zone Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 The thing is that keeping outside Sc record in mind ,Top 3 should always be those who can play in all conditions that makes top 4 Rahul/vijay/Rahane along with kohli at 4 fixed.I do think there is no need to play 5 bowlers specially in Sc conditions with two spinners doing bulk of the bowling one of the pacers will always be under bowled. That leaves 3 way shoot out for position 5 and 6 between dhawan ,pujara and rohit. In my opinion it would be unfortunate but hv to leave out dhawan as other two are middle order batsman.Only other option is rahul keeping wickets and dhawan playing in place of saha but its highly unlikely .Dhawan will always be in the squad though and can replace any time.So as of now the best we have is rahul vijay rahane kohli pujara rohit saha ashwin mishra shami ishant yadav bhuvi bhajji dhawan Outside Sc yadav can play in place of mishra in playing 11 and Aaron can replace bhajan in the squad.
Vijy Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 Also Rahane Rahane and Ashwin are safe... for now.

Did u even watch the series in Australia? Pujara played a decent knock in saving the test in Melbourne consuming lot of balls .Was dropped straight after that Had a a 70+ knock in Adelaide as well Raina got a pair in Sydney .How the deck can u even say Raina looked a better option than Pujara .
Gollum Posted August 22, 2015 Author Posted August 22, 2015 Rahane and Ashwin are safe... for now. Absolutely but they may not enjoy a long rope if their performance dips.

sensible-indian Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 I am not able to understand something. Brother Gollum, Marut and Vijy - can you explain why you think Kohli would remove Chepu, Ashwin, Rahane and Vijay if thir performance dips a bit and not others?
Vijy Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 I am not able to understand something. Brother Gollum, Marut and Vijy - can you explain why you think Kohli would remove Chepu, Ashwin, Rahane and Vijay if thir performance dips a bit and not others? Because none of them are top-notch ODI cricketers - Ashwin and Rahane have enjoyed some degree of success, but not a lot). In VK's mind, I think he feels that good ODI players such as Rohit and Binny are the ones with "flair" and who can play "aggressively" in Tests. As VK is young and inexperienced, he probably doesn't realize that aggression can be expressed in different ways, esp in Tests - Kumble had that never-say-die attitude and always kept probing away as a bowler, but he was a dour batsman and bowler (in a technical sense). His aggression stemmed from his constant determination to play positively; what VK needs to realize is that choosing defensive batsmen (and bowlers) is okay, as long as they demonstrate the hunger, technique and temperament to belong at this level.
Gollum Posted August 22, 2015 Author Posted August 22, 2015 Add to what Vijy wrote(a very valid and logical illustration) I somehow see an ambitious streak in VK. He has that hungry look written all over his face. He is someone who won't surrender captaincy easily and these 3 are threats to that. What the idiot doesn't realize is that all these 3(4 if you count Che) are mild natured team men, meek and don't have any lobby behind them. The real threat to his captaincy is the equally ambitious Nohit. If he is able to string together a few big scores, be prepared to bear the Mumbai lobby crying for him to be made captain. Already we have many idiots wanting him as captain because of his success in that T20 league whose name I keep forgetting.

VK is definitely a bit of a brat and won't want to lose the captaincy as you said. However, it seems to me that of the 4 - Rahane, Ashwin, Chepu and Vijay - Chepu has the least pull actually. I think the exclusion of Chepu (and possibly the others) more likely to be a cause of his misguided knowledge - he is after all a member of the T20s and ODIs generation and think that skill sets of these 2 formats are equally applicable in Tests.
sensible-indian Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 Thanks guys. But if Kohli wants to save captaincy at all costs, then Nohit is a much bigger threat than others. I am sure he knows that but still he is going for Nohit at the expense of the least threat Chepu. I think its more of misguided knowledge and opinion that is making him do dumb stuff now. Kohli is a brat and I don't how he would behave if his captaincy is on the line but his actions for now don't seem to indicate that he is saving his captaincy.

Yes i know Raina got a pair but do i select playing XI ? obviously team management thought he was a better option than Pujara before start of the game even today i expect Kohli and Shastri to know better on whom to play or not to play. So if pujara is out of XI there must be some cricketing reason and nothing to do with all the conspiracy theories people are posting.

So if pujara is out of XI there must be some cricketing reason and nothing to do with all the conspiracy theories people are posting. How do we know for sure that the team management doesn't make mistakes? I personally think the conspiracy theory of Kohli trying to protect his captaincy is far-fetched and I don't believe so but there's nothing to suggest that it isn't a possible reason. Based on what we hear from media we can only try to get a vague hang of what's going on in the team and it's natural for cricket fans to speculate based on what they've observed. Vijy's reasoning here makes perfect sense based on what we hear the team management say to the media. You can't rule out the possibility of the team management making any kind of mistake and assume whatever decision they take as gospel. That's like saying nobody should write a movie review unless they are filmmakers themselves. Their decision obviously isn't working and that's why fans are complaining.

Brother Gollum, Marut and Vijy - can you explain why you think Kohli would remove Chepu, Ashwin, Rahane and Vijay if thir performance dips a bit and not others? Re. Pujara, Rahane, and Vijay - My personal view is that their places will be always under the spotlight because if this recent BS pretence of trying to play "aggressive" Test cricket...continuously being blurted pre-SL test series by Shastri, support staff and Kohli. Hence they would prefer likes of Rohit Sharma, Dhawan, Binny etc because their apparent ability to play "aggressive" cricket and same time go in with 5 bowlers. For e.g., If I am not wrong, Shastri cited the recent ongoing Ashes for reasons for playing five bowlers without taking cognizance both Eng & Aus have decent all rounders in Moen Ali, Stokes, M. Marsh, Shane Watson, Broad even likes of Starc and Mitchell Johnsen can bat. No amount of chest-thumping will produce Aggressive Test cricket, if you ain't got at least two bowlers with sub-30 average and two-three batsmen with 50+ average (regardless of SR). I am not sure if Shastri knows what he is on about.
HippoSucks Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 Is there any evidence that Kohli may drop Ashwin or Rahane if they start underperforming? If not these are all baseless speculations as a result of Pujara being rightfully dropped. If Rahane or Ashwin fail for 1 whole year like Pujara, they deserve to be dropped as well (of course it depends on the context of those failures though).

If Pujara had to be dropped Rohit should have been dropped too. I don't mind sending out a message to everyone by dropping under-performing players. But selectively dropping certain players is what's triggering these speculations.
