Some budding player for the Test 11 instead of pathetic. Suggest other options too. [Yes, like BG said ChePu first, looking for backup options to ChePu] (* a stray dog like 79 or 790 doesnt change the tag)

Yes he has shown some promise. Pujara can get the #3 spot and Mukund can be considered a backup #3...perhaps.
Vijy Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Vihari, Bawne and Shankar for differing reasons. Iyer is too raw at the moment - has only 1 good Ranji season. Mukund has a suspect technique, although he tries to grit it out... besides, he is an opener and we have enough choices amongst Rahul, Dhawan and Vijay. Karun Nair seems to be decent player of spin, but the first 3 names mentioned have much better records.

Its just that I didnt create it, so you didnt suggest that. Bashing players or whining abt India's performance - many here do that in threads they create. (And with Nohit, there are more threads than we can count and this thread is abt options to replace that pathetic).

Karun Nair has a very weird technique am not sure he can succeed against good pace and swing , he's not the most talented bat I have seen either but on Indian he can bully attacks . He's probably the best player of spin in the country atm . Iyer , is a big No for me .

Smith also has a weird technique, but that hasn't stopped him from scoring runs... what does matter, however, is whether Nair's weird technique is solid. If not, he doesn't merit selection. Why is Iyer a no? Too raw... or just too many technical deficiencies?

Yeah though his technique is not as weird as smith .Cant tell about such players , but yeah in India he's another bat who can play a long innings . Has superb footwork against spinners . Iyer plays too many cross batted shots and neither is he ready , just don't see the hype around him .

Been a while since I've seen that - memories of Sidhu, SRT and Laxman. As for Iyer, some amount of hype is bound to be because of Mumbai lobby - same also goes for Sarfaraz Khan.

Now the squad has one opener, unless Ojha opens of course- and I know he can but cant be right for long term planning at test level.
