Average of 38 is decent only, judged based on that. I would say Kohli and Rohit are better than Rahane and Dhawan when it comes to playing genuine quick bowlers.

Is there need to be a debate on this? Rahane is better at playing swing, Rohit is better at playing pace. I will already said above I will prefer Rahane opening in Australia because of I think he has better technique and better quipped to play new ball.

Rahane's score in the ODI series against SL 111, 8, 31, 28, 2 averaging 36, overall SR 86. Average 34 against WI, SR 80. Average 48 against England scoring 192 in 4 matches.

Scored runs in CT, in WI on far difficult pitches for batting than in England ODIs and you are saying cannot buy runs. Rahane was there in NZ too and averaged 10 in 4 matches scoring 51 with highest being 36 and he did not even face new ball. Rahane played 1 match in SA scored 8 runs. Rohit played 2 matches. There is not enough sample size to say Rahane will be better in ODIs overseas. He did well in England but even Rohit scored a 50 in one match he played there. If you are talking about him struggling against Steyn in SA big time, I dont see many batsmen successfully playing such kind of spells. I would still say that I find Rahane better technique wise, but only time will tell how successful he will be. I wont make any prediction.

The time of Finn is gone. He handled Finn far better at his own turf compared to the series that happened 3 years back. The toughest wicket of CT was during the finals and the semis too, failed in both occasions. If Rahane's scored of 2011 is brought onto the table then Rohit couldn't but any runs during the last CB series either.

Rahane scored 8 in SA, 51 in 4 mtches in NZ. If you are discounting Rohit's CT then discount Rahane's runs scored in England too. Now, these are double standards. England is difficult for batting only when ball swings. Even Raina has scored runs there.

U can't really justify test performances for a claim to place in odi team Truth is Rahane had great chance in the england and srilanka series to big scores on trot and secure the spot But despite the 2 100s he had too many poor scores in btw.So both Rohit and Rayadu deserve it ahead of him for cb series .

I have always felt Rahane is not ODI material. Seems to be too inconsistent and looks like his style of play is not suited for ODIs. He has improved his average a bit off late but that's only because of 1 or 2 good innings after a series of failures which is not good enough. What you want is consistency. It looks as if the pressure sometimes gets to him when he doesnt score runs quickly or he just throws his wicket away after a start.

People giving examples of Rohit not scoring runs in SA and NZ like Rahane was topping the charts. He was even more miserable in those ODIs. I have no bias for anyone. Rahane certainly has better technique but fact is he has struggled overseas against good bowling too in ODIs.

Before we go on ethane bashing. Rahane played very less Odis compared to rohit. Played very well in England Odis on his first tour. Let him play more before we decide who is better.
