Hell Raiser Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Rohit looks class apart when in full flow. The form which he is showing, he should bat at the number 6 position in test matches, although a lot will depend on the practice games as well.

But if Kohli fails at Melbourne and Sydney then Rohit might get his chance.

I know kohli will be preferred for that spot, but Rohit is in amazing form and IMO he can face short pitch deliveries better than kohli . Not trying to undermine kohli's talent and ability, but Rohit looks a better bet than Kohli ATM. Both are good players, but as I said a lot can depend on the practice matches. Whoever does well, will lay a claim for that spot. Good competition.

Just think the most recent Test performance gives Kohli an advantage.
Manny_Pacquiao Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 kohli is good against the short ball. dont know where people have got this idea that he struggles against it. the guy has an excellent pull shot. in the west indies, he walked in just before lunch, before tea, in situations when he was required to defend. thats why he was leaving a lot and this gives ppl the impression that he was struggling. lazy reporting by journalists create these incorrect impressions. he even pulled edwards for a six to get off the mark in one of those innings. in the recent ODI series against england, they tried to bounce him out and he kept pulling them comfortably.

MCcricket Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Among all the players of the current generation, Rohit has more class , time to play the bowling, balance , proper tecnique. His weakness earlier was throwing away his wicket and temperament, he looks a different player now, I would have him before any one else in both ODI AND TEST among the younger lot.Looking at his Domestic record and a average of 63 we know he also has an apetite for big scores and is very consistent.Parthiv Patel and Mithun I am not sure why they are in the squad or the team at present,Mithun is way of the mark,Kohli is not comfortable with short pitch deliveries, he might find a way to be successfull in test's as he has talent though but ODI and test's very different.
Vilander Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 He gets out at key points, a hundred in a loosing cause is below a fighting 30 in a winning one. He appears a bit lazy to care too, knowing he has batted well and is safe from criticism.
Vilander Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Not South Indian sisters though :P No in TN they do.

He appears a bit lazy to care too, knowing [b']he has batted well and is safe from criticism.[/QUOTE] He has taken the team home as many times (if not more) than the number of times he got out in a key moment. Regarding the bold text, it is too early and too harsh to say such a thing! I believe he is a very good human being (as I can see from following him on twitter) and do not think in such negative terms. However, I do agree that he has to iron out his flaws even now and is nearly the finished product and not yet one.

I know Dhoni won't think that way though. Not taking anything away from Kohli, but he still needs to work on playing the short pitched stuff and he's going to get plenty of it in Aus.
Old guy Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 kohli is much better player in swinging bouncing pitches then rohit thats proven even in odis south african pitches were favouring bowler and there rohit sharma struggled badly and kohli was our best batsman im still not sure about his technique yes he is good puller but that was never a problem his problem is outside off stump bowl rising up he just cant seem to play ball on ground or in cricketing terms he is unable to get on top of them so unless kohli fails badly u cant drop him from test specially after 2 fifties that owuld be unfair more over he just scored a century in last game in odis (again) so thats not ognna happen currently kohli>rohit technically and also on form he isnt bad

Nothing agaist Kohli, but he didn't do any favor to himself by that lacklustre performance in WI. Also I feel Rohit has more class and is more likely to succeed in longer format of the game wrt Kohli. However, I agree that Kohli's problem with short ball are not that big as have been made out in media. In ODI's and T20's he plays pull shots pretty comfortably.
Sachin=GOD Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 MoS :hatsoff: Played very well in this series. He looks ready for Test cricket and I hope to see him in the playing 11 in the 1st Test in Aus.

However problem is the big 3 and the openers woudl also want to make good use of the practise match
