I would play him in Sydney in place of Kohli, but knowing how Dhoni likes to stick to his decisions I don't see that happening. Kohli has similar problem in his technique as Ponting. He goes across too soon and closes the face of the bat, on the other hand I don't see any apparent fault in Rohit's technique, although technical flaws get exposed mainly in tests which he hasn't played yet. But he can't do any worse than what Kohli did in Melbourne. They should take the chance.

Now for gods sake play him in last test. Kohli has showed what giving a run to a talented youngster can do. Now we have missed investing in Rohit. But do it now. He must be picked ahead of either Dravid or Laxman. If he does not play final test then its a disgrace

Every youngster in the side needs a test now. 5 changes for the last test Sehwag goes out, Rahane in VVS goes out , Rohit comes in MSD out, Saha in Ishant out, Ashwin in Vinay out, Ojha in Let Gauti or for that matter Zaheer lead the side in the last test.

Couldn't agree more. He's more suited to longer format where he doesn't have the pressure to rotate the strike as much and no pressure to score quick runs & playing a brainless shot. He, along with Rahane, Pujara and Mukund are the ones to watch out for.

Mukund? I don't think he'll do well on pitches with juice and/or against quality bowlers. I can see Philander, Steyn, etc all pwning him. Tiwary should be in that list too.

It's unfortunate the guy only played on difficult pitches and has yet to play a Test at home so I will give hime the benefit of doubt. As for Tiwary, no doubt he's talented but others I mentioned are ahead of him in the queue IMO. But he should get his chance in the near future once our seniors retire and the logjam in our middle order clears up a bit.

lol@ people counting off mukund already wht i saw was.. a nervous kid trying his best to fight it out! still played well...tried his best... and wasnt actually bad against short stuff just needs to get some confidence and some work on his game...(off side play) he will do well.. he is def the future test prospect but right now some one like rahane imho is more complete for tests

Rohit has temperament issue- So many opportunities and still failing..... Manoj Tiwary would have done a much better Job , Rahane wud have done a better Job, Mukund wud have grabbed- I can tell u Manoj, Rahane and Mukund will be more successfull in future where as Rohit wud be a once in bluemoon hero like a sehwag and others..... Pujara may challenge even Kohli as I feel the closest to Kohli is Pujara. Rohit did not impress me against Pak as well, it was an average innings on a Patta wicket. I wish Yusuf shud have got a chance and he applied - it was a DEAD wicket- to get oneself out was a difficult chance. Dinda and pathan bowled well and so did Ashwin. Even Pak chucker Ajmal was dangerous and Gul was dangerous

It is surprising that the Indian selectors consistently keep giving chances to players in formats that they are not best suited: Rohit, Tiwary and Rahane have FC averages of over 60 and List A averages of less than 40 and yet these guys have been pushed into the wrong formats. And there are other players who have very good List A records who haven't come close to selection.
