NEW DELHI: How would you picture the life of a former international cricketer? Probably nurturing the upcoming generation of cricketers, commentating, working for a cricket board, running his own cricket academy, dealing with the nitty-gritties of his business or simply sunbathing in a faraway island while enjoying the life of a retired professional. The life of retired Pakistan offspinner Arshad Khan is a far cry from all this. On Monday, a post on social networking website Facebook claimed that the former cricketer is driving Uber Taxi in Sydney. "He was the driver of our cab and we started chatting, he told me that he is from Pakistan and lives in Sydney. Also that he has been to Hyderabad many times when he was playing for Lahore Badshahs something in ICL. After which I asked him his full name and then I was shocked to see his face which I could partially recognise. I shook has his hand and left," Ganesh Birle posted on his Facebook account on Monday. "He was avoiding the conversation all the time, but at the same time he couldn't help but talk about his India connection. Imagine he introduced himself as 'I from Pakistan [sic] but I have been here in Sydney for long time now'. Also like a good Uber driver he offered us water and stuff when we sat in the car," he wrote. Arshad made his debut for Pakistan in 1997-98 against West Indies and went on to play nine Tests and 58 ODIs. During his international career that effectively ended after he signed up for the rebel Indian Cricket League, he picked 32 Test and 56 ODI wickets. Actually a lot of former cricketers have financial problems. Some wasted away their money. And some never made that much money during their cricket career. A taxi driver in Sydney isn't the worst possible outcome. At least he is trying, has a job instead of sitting and complaining about his cricket board not taking care of him.

well there are obviously Pakistani cricketers who do not take money from bookies so obviously that should not be an excuse I hope Arshad can improve his situation though, although it really isn't all that bad.

In NZ and Aus it's not uncommon for former cricketers to have careers like cab driver, truck driver etc. Ewan Chatfield is also driving cabs. There isn't the stigma associated with such jobs as there is in India/Pak

It may sound harsh, but typically Pakistani would do anything to remain out of Pakistan. Driving Uber is still not a bad option anyways.

NO amount of money can get you this honour . After playing 9 tests and 58 ODI's you don't expect driving Uber. As far other than south asian nations are concerned we all know how much cricket craze is left in them. Cricket is not so popular sport their

Arshad definitely did a decent job for his country, although he wasn't top quality. It's sad to hear of such cricketers, or sportspersons anywhere, having to fall back on such options.

Is that a benchmark for a Paki cricketer :cantstop:....anyways feel bad that he has fallen on hard times if it is true.....as far as driving UBER goes,isn't that a part time job for a lot of people these days :dontknow:

I think even the UK must have tonnes of ex pakistani cricketers who are cabbies... Probably half the cabbies in the uk are pakistani. (not looking down on them its an honest days work)
