Wahab Riaz Charged With Ball Tampering By British Media

Dubai: England have complained to the match referee that Pakistan paceman Wahab Riaz deliberately trod on the ball during the fourth day of the second Test on Sunday, British media reported. (Pakistan Maintain Supremacy Despite Joe Root's Defiance)

The incident took place during England's second innings with batsman Joe Root getting involved in a heated argument with Riaz. (Younis Khan Becomes first Pakistan Batsman to go Past 9000 Test Runs)

"Root complained to the umpires because he felt Pakistan fast bowler Riaz had deliberately trod on the ball," according to a Daily Mail report.

It added: "England coach Trevor Bayliss visited the match referee Andy Pycroft to alert him to the incident, as Root -- who was battling to save the game -- and Riaz briefly became involved in a heated exchange."

But Pakistan team manager Intikhab Alam said he was unaware of the incident despite British media claiming the incident was an attempt to alter the state of the ball.

"I am not aware of any such report or incident," Alam told AFP. "Riaz was not summoned by the match referee so there is no issue on that."

England assistant coach Paul Farbrace played down the issue.

"In the heat of battle you are going to see the odd exchange between players," said Farbrace after the day's play.

"Riaz certainly won't be signing for Chelsea in the Premier League with his footballing skills. The umpires dealt with it at the time and that is the end of it."

England, chasing a daunting 491-run target, were 130-3 at close with Root batting on a fighting 59 and Jonny Bairstow on six.

Pakistan need seven wickets on Monday's final day to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series after the first Test ended in a draw in Abu Dhabi.

Has there ever been a series between these 2 sides sans controversy?

I agree. British media are the lowest of all low lifes, scum of the earth. They pretend to be do gooders and honest, whilst they do the opposite. Effing hypocrites. I expect more whining from their side in the coming days.

I wouldn't be so sure about that.

All the stuff about Waqar, Imran and Wasim's cheating was true. Now due to lot of camaras, it is difficult to use bottle caps hence pakis have resorted to chucking and tampering with other means.

If Imran, Waqar and Wasim were tampering ball and getting wickets, what was stopping other cricketers to do so? If Ian Botham could do drugs and play cricket, ball tampering is nothing compared to drug abuse!

Imran, wasim and waqar didnt need ball tampering to be great bowlers. Its the same with Wahab, he is not in the same class but these english dicks need something to whine about.

First thing is dicks cannot whine, they do other stuffs. Even Imran himself has confessed of tampering the ball with bottle caps. No doubt they were all very talented in using the bottle caps. They were good but were cheaters just like Ajmal.

You sound to me like a Pakistan hater without logic. I dont recall the name of the english bowler who used brylcream to tamper the ball, against sunny gavaskar. Funny enough, nobody talks of that incident, but Imran is always in the forefront for a silly admission.

Whatever Pakistani bowlers did, the others were doing the same, minus the controversy!

Other bowlers were definitely trying to tamper with the ball, and have been doing so for ages. It's just that Pakistani bowlers were much better at ball tampering, and they thus get a bad name. It's a compliment, BTW.

Stating fact is hating  . That is a new definition of hating. Imran hiself has confessed of ball tampering but you are telling that he does not. You mean to say Imran was a liar and told all the these things to malign Pakistan and hence a traitor too.

Imran had said that just jokingly about using a bottle cap to tamper the ball, that too in an exhibition match ( if I am not wrong). English media latched on to Waqar and Wasim in early 90's series because they had no answer to their pace and reverse swing. The whole world was tampering ball, dont single out the Pakistanis. Don't forget that even Sachin Tendulkar was involved in a ball tampering case! So what do you think of that ? The fact is, Imran and Wasim are genuinely 2 of the all time greats ( possibly the world's best fast bowlers ever ). Waqar would be an all time great, although not the best. And I am an Indian, not a Pakistani.

No he was not joking. He admitted to ball tampering. Do you have any proof of the whole world tampering balls :phehehe: Same olf victim mentality - why only pakis are banned and convicted while others are also match fixing, why pakis are only banned while others are also chucking. Simple thing is Waqar, Wasim and Imram, all three used to tamper the ball. This fact does not change if Sachin was involved in ball tampering or whole world was involved or martians were involved.
