Malcolm Merlyn Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Dhawan is over.Even today his slow 50 will most likely cost us the match. Its unfair that Manish Pandey and Gurkeerat both cant play together because there is no spot available, yet we play a over the hill, out of form, limited, technically inept opener.May be its time to try Rahane or Pandey as opener? doccricket 1
Sooda Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Seeing that Manish dosent open, that is an easy question
Ankit_sharma03 Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Rahane no ques about itHe is the best player of fast bowlingMuch better batsman than pandeyU give ur best batsman more balls doccricket 1

Sooda Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 ^Hm, good point but he was pretty experienced as a middle order ODI bat before he started opening. Would be unfair on a newbie to play out of position. He could play at 4 with Rohit and Rahane opening

express bowling Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 My choice would be Rahane. He is a very good player of pace and bounce. Can play swing and seamHe is batting well till the 40th over in ODis in recent times but can't bat after the 40th over.We want him in the team and he is best suited for the top 3. Only one of the opener's slot is open. The only reason to have Pandey as an opener is if he can take advantage of PP1 better than Rahane...as Rohit takes a bit of a time to get set. Is Pandey good enough for that ? doccricket 1

express bowling Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Pandey is supposedly a very good stroke player.Isnt he?He is....but he is a bit unorthodox in his approach with a strange technique the last time I saw him bat in a Ranji match. Not sure that he will be able to handle the new ball unless I see him actually open. Batsmen with unorthodox techniques can be great successes if they click ...but the probability of that happening is lower than normal I guess.

Sooda Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Any idea if Pandey has ever opened?Only in the IPL I think, but rkt will know better
express bowling Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Then Rahane should open and Pandey can then come in as the hitter down the order.Safer option surely
rkt.india Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Pandey has never opened. Rahane is good. But I am sure Dhawan will continue.
rkt.india Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Dhawan's batting was painful to watch today. He wasted 20 odd deliveries. We could have scored 30 more runs. Also he played too many dot balls. He wont work in the middle order too due to his dot ball issues. doccricket 1
Forever Indian Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 I have noticed that Dhawan scores back to back fifties and hundreds when in form, and scores zilch when not in form. I guess he should be played overseas only when in form. Rahane should open overseas otherwise.
bowl_out Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Did Rohit opened before Soods?Fair enough. But I haven't seen any player come into the Intl arena and straight-away play in a position he hasn't in before. Rohit played as a middle order batsman, and slowly went on to become an opener.. Same thing with Sehwag and even Sachin...
Ankit_sharma03 Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 (edited) Pandey has never opened. Rahane is good. But I am sure Dhawan will continue. Lets not say pandey hasnt opened. he has opened for Rcb n was the 1st indian to make an 100 in Ipl that to in south africa, were most youngsters were struggling to bat in that iplhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fwq91pZNlkBut having said that ill open With rahane, Rahane is meant for opening. N for gud player like him opening shud be made vacant. Always beilved he is the best player of fast bowling in this team Edited January 17, 2016 by Ankit_sharma03
G_B_ Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Rahane has better technique v the new ball and is a better opener. The thing about shikar is he always seems to do well in big tournaments. His average in champions trophy and the WC is pretty high. The thing I will say is Rahane and Rohit despite playing a lot of cricket for Mumbai keep getting each other runout. Not sure if anybody noticed this. doccricket 1
Malcolm Merlyn Posted January 23, 2016 Author Posted January 23, 2016 BUMP.Pandey is needed in the team.
