One more turner at Mumbai against WI!

Let's have another turner or a slowish pitch against WI and get into the finals. WI batting relies on hitting 6s and a slowish pitch or a turner won't help them hit boundaries. I say let's have another one of those turners and watch the fun!

Unlike Aus WI have a very good spin attack. Badree and Benn with Gayle for back up...they have also done well v SL and SA on turning wickets.

What we need is a pitch on the slowish side which rewards good batting bowling (pace and spin)

West Indies were poor against spin today in Nagpur.

They struggled to rotate strike. Today's nagpur wasn't turning like Ind v NZ game.

I think Ashwin bowling out his overs in PP is the way, and use Yuvraj, Raina, Jadeja in middle overs to bog them down. Starve them off singles and twos, force them come out of crease to play big shots.

Do you want a rank turner so that the side batting 2nd can be out of the game? We need sporting pitches which help good batting and bowling while punishing bad batting and bowling .... The wkt at Delhi (Eng vs SL) has been relatively sporting vs other pitches

If not for Kohli, Ind would have not won this game. It required a very special effort to chase the score down

This was not a turner though

As I said in the OP, a turner or a slowish one.

They may have spinners but they bat like shyte on spin friendly tracks. They can't rotate the strike and rely on boundaries. I expect India to beat WI on a spin friendly track.

If Wi batsmen can't hit boundaries, chances are Ind's bats will not too

T20s is about runs

We are much better than them in scoring runs without boundaries... we don't rely as much as they do. Case in point the last WT20 where they struggled and merely scored 120 odd and India won easily.

WI batting is pathetic. It took an equally pathetic bowling attack of England, for them to chase 180+. That too most of them scored by the experienced hand. Rest were crumbling like anything in that match. All other matches they were scratching and crawling to 120ish targets and finally failing to do so.

This is being played in 2016 .... And our batting cannot even score 120 on such tracks if Kohli gets out

We are winning and that's what matters. As for us not winning if Kohli gets out, we all saw what WI did against Afghanistan. Yup, they couldn't beat Afghanistan so obviously they have biggesr issues on spin friendly tracks. Again, your theory might be that playing WI on a batting friendly track would be a better option but my opinion is that India have a much better chance of beating WI on a pitch which is spin friendly and their strokeplayers can't knock it out of the park every other over.

That is the problem as in trying to set trap for the opposition, you are also setting a trap for your own team .... and leaving a lot on the toss

The track at Mohali was not spinning much and it still took a great inning to pull Ind through :winky:  .... As I said, I prefer a sporting track (in playing in Ind's context at least something like the one in Eng vs SL game which assisted both good bowling and good stroke play)

It's not about the trap IMO, it's all about weighing your and your opponent's strengths and weaknesses. Everyone can see WI batting over-relies on hitting boundaries. Gayle can't take quick 1s and 2s and their hitter down the order rely on big hits. They are the sort of a team which struggles big time if they can't reach a boundary and they generally go dot dot dot boundary. If you can stop them from getting a boundary or give them a pitch where boundary hitting is not easy, they struggle. India doesn't struggle as much.

You simply have to look at WI-Afg match today and WI-Ind game from WT 2014 to see how they can be reined in on a spin friendly or slowish surface. I believe playing WI on such a surface would give us a much better chance compared to playing WI on a typical flattish Mumbai track where WI power-hitter can go big. Again, you are only looking at one match (NZ) but ignoring the success we had in others. If you simply want to look at NZ match, which was an exception given it was our first match in WT20 after the Asia Cup, you will never play a match on a turning pitch ever again!

WI and Ind have similar strengths and weaknesses. Dhawan, Rohit, Raina, Yuvi and Pandya are boundary hitters too. Many of them will not last for more than 12 balls :cantstop:

As I said, I want a pitch that supports both good bowling and batting and punishes bad batting and bowling

No, not really. We don't rely as much on boundaries as WI does. Exhibit A: WI vs Afgh today, Exhibit B: WI vs Ind in WT20 2014. If you give WI a spin friendly surface, they struggle much more than any other team, including India. If you don't believe so, so be it. But if I'm asked to come up with a pitch for WI game at Mumbai, I would make it as spin friendly as possible.

So you will eventually make a square turner, which is as spin friendly a track can possibly become,  where Ind has never won batting 2nd in a key tournament hosted in Ind

In LOIs, I like a sporting pitch which supports both good batting (including hitting boundaries) and good bowling (not totally batsman friendly) and where good players can showcase their best!

I will make a spin friendly track where it's not easy to launch from ball one. Again, if you believe India doesn't have a better chance against WI on a spin friendly track so be it. My opinion differs.

I said that on an overtly spinning track, the side batting first has an advantage .... not that which team (Ind or WI) has a better chance on a particular track. Per your theory, Ind would have won vs NZ too as Ind bats and bowl spin better

The only possible scenario where WI MIGHT win is, the Wankede behaves like it did for Eng-SA match and WI bat second chasing around 160 and Ashwin had a bad day (6.5+ rpo without wickets).

If even any one of these things doesn't satisfy, it's a bye-bye WI.

I can bet my house on this.
