We never hear of Atkinson or anyone giving 2 hoots when the pitch seams around like crazy. But if it turns, all hell breaks loose! If it's a patta, we are essentially handing advantage to England who have hitters throughout the lineup starting with Hales and Jason Roy followed by likes of Buttler and Stokes down the order. Turning pitch would've kept them in check but with a fresh pitch which doesn't support spin, it's Advantage England.

If it offers some movement, then still fine. But, not flat pitch. Guess, ICC loved the 230 run fest in Mumbai. If that is the quality that is liked, I feel sorry for the quality of cricket being shown to the viewers.

If that is the quality that is liked, I feel sorry for the quality of cricket being shown to the viewers. If it offers seam movement it would be even worse for us. England has a predominantly seam based attack with 4 pacers (Tremlett, Jordan, Willey and Stokes) while we have just 2. There's no way our attack can even compete with England's if the pitch offers seam movement. We need a pitch which supports spin else it's England's game to lose. P.S. - I don't see why you need to feel sorry for viewers about quality of cricket. The quality of cricket has been pretty good with lots of close matches. They were much better than batathons where team batting first scores 200+ and finishes off the game. Edited March 31, 2016 by Ultimate_Game

Seam as in not like Pune T20 against SL. Some movement is still fine and keeps the balance between bat and ball. And we actually are not that bad with pace bowling. Nehra and Bumrah and Pandya are decent enough to exploit any movement in the pitch. All this assuming ofcourse that we will make the final in the first place. Edited March 31, 2016 by Adi_91

Whether we reach the finals or not is a different matter, but we have to start preparing the Kolkatta pitch assuming we will.

Tbh, not sure how much the curator can make the Eden Gardens's pitch different from its true nature. It has always assisted spin. They said that Nagpur pitch was monitored to see if it conforms to international standards after the game vs NZ. Guess, very little changed based on the evidence of the WI vs Afg game. All this talk about pitch changes don't really change the character of the surface much.

Unless there is a drop-in pitch can the curator drastically change the soil nature? Eden not affording a bit of turn would be a great surprise. Edited March 31, 2016 by profster
WC2011INDIA Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Why do i get this feeling that the stars are aligning for England to win this.

zen Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 If this were a rank turner, WI, who won the toss, would have batted first and it could have been game over for Ind .... With 190 odd, Ind still has a fighting chance

Only managed 21 4s and 6s in 20 overs vs. tons by WI
