Why didn't Pujara take part in County this season?

Cheteshwar Pujara to visit U16 coaching camp in Nagaland

 

As a part of the BCCI’s plan to nurture talent and encourage cricket activities in the region, Pujara is scheduled to train the boys from five north-eastern states - Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Sikkim and Nagaland for two days. .......

 

Talking about his upcoming stint with the youngsters, Pujara said, "It is an honour for me to share my experience with young cricketers. It is a nice initiative by the by the board to promote cricket in the Northeast. We need to nurture the talent in smaller states.” ......

Acknowledging the importance of organising zonal camps in the off-season, Pujara said, “I have been a beneficiary of the system. Saurashtra now is a strong centre, but earlier we were not in the same league as Mumbai or Karnataka. I was picked for the camps in the NCA and trained in Bangalore. Being a part of the NCA helped me in my early days."

The batsman also talked about his plan, “ I will share my experience of playing domestic and international cricket with them. I will guide them how one must prepare before a game so that when they play competitive games, they are well equipped and can perform well. Since they are young, it is appropriate to make them aware of the importance of preparations to succeed at the higher level.”

Excellent stuff. It's shocking that we have yet to see a North Eastern in the national team. I really feel NE India has a huge pool of athletic and talented sportsmen moreso than Haryana. Need to harness their potential in all the sports to win more medals. Indian cricket definitely needs them.

You're right. So many of our athletes representing us in the Olympics come from the North east. I guess it is their food habits and the rugged terrains they grow up in that makes them so athletic.

Yes,and most of their forefathers were of chinese, japanese and mongol origin.

He's not in IPL and its an off season for Indian domestic teams. He doesn't play T20's or ODI's and with test season coming up it would have been ideal for him to have a stint at one of the counties.

Well pujara talks about playing the williamson, root role but the problem is that 2 of our best limited overs batsman right now Rohit and Virat play similar roles already....so do we need another?

 

The reason why Williamson or root stand out because they start conservatively before going on the attack and turning it on for their respective teams while playing along with a lot of big hitters who attack from ball one.

 

we already have rohit and virat doing that....so what does Chepu bring to this team?

 

india needs an opener like gayle,Mccullum,Warner or even gutpill who go on the offensive from ball 1

His test position itself is in jeopardy if Kohli continues to go with the five bowlers approach and has to choose between him and Rohit. He should want to cement his test spot first before wanting to emulate the Roots and the Williamsons who are far better multi format players.

This highlights the fact that India need an elite franchised first class competition where all the main test players and test prospects are required to play so that guys like pujara aren't trying so desperately to play in IPL.

I saw his interview on Gujarati channel on the day when New Franchaise were declared and one of them was Rajkot..He looked so happy that there is Rajkot team and he will be picked for it.
