Why didn't Pujara take part in County this season?

He's not in IPL and its an off season for Indian domestic teams. He doesn't play T20's or ODI's and with test season coming up it would have been ideal for him to have a stint at one of the counties.

He had one last year didn't he? Is he injured or something?

Looks like he was hoping to be part of IPL. He think he has a role to play in limited overs cricket too. He has a point though

“You don’t need to be attractive while scoring runs. What matters is the score. I look at myself [performing the role of a Joe Root or a Kane Williamson].

“They never start things off in a flashy manner. I have a similar role. I can play that role in ODI and Twenty20 cricket.

“I am not trying to compare myself with them, but the technique and style is similar. I want to improve. I can’t be like a Chris Gayle or a Virender Sehwag.

I have this feeling that present generation cricketers have a lot of mental stress to deal with. Watching 1990s cricket you can easily notice that none of the cricketers looked stressed or burnt out irrespective of amount of cricket they played annually.

His low self esteem is bizarre. Why is he so desperate to make it to limited overs cricket ? I know players who do very well in limited overs cricket and are desperate to be established test players, not the other way round.

Elite sports is tough, and perceptions even harder to break.

if Pujara wants to play ODIs and T20s, then he will need to force his way through Tests by scoring massive runs at good SR (min 65).

only a 100 plus runs average in the next 12 home tests will give selectors a pause to consider him.

Right now selectors will first always consider IPL performances for limited overs selection.

No IPL for Pujara makes it doubly difficult

The one big issue with Pujara in limited overs is his glaring obvious lack of six hitting,

Likes of Root, Amla and Williamson can hit sixes without looking awkward, I have never seen Pujara hit sixes effortlessly

Well even if he did, IPL auction ended a long time ago. He was not bought for 2nd year in a row iirc.

Moreover except that ton vs SL he really hasn't shown the same consistency he did prior to his slump in form. I guess he needs to worry about that more than getting into ODI/T20 side.

Especially he needs to realize that with Rahane, Kohli and Rohit already featuring in LOI's he has no shot even if he gets amongst runs in IPL or domestic level. Why not try and be the best test player out there?

I was also wondering for many days y hasnt he signed for any county this season

He shud get out of this stubbornness that he wants to be a short format player, nothing bad in it but he shud 1st concentrate on his test match problems. Oppositons have figured out that its the incoming ball that troubles him not only form seamer but spinner to. Lets not forget his failures in overseas.

He is very essential for this team he we have to do well as a test team.

This is so wrong. You guys just form a perception withouth knowing the facts, no??

Cheteshwar and Arvind Pujara : Runs their cricket academy at Rajkot FREE OF COST

“It was my father’s idea to help young cricketers without charging money. We are not earning but spending a lot of money. It is difficult, but at present I am earning enough to contribute to run this place. If he is passionate about coaching and young guys are benefitting out of it, I don’t mind sacrificing some money for it.”

Maybe because earlier there was a Test planned with Zimbabwe in June and then WI series in July kick starting a very long and tiring home season where we will play 18-20 tests in the next 12 months. A county season before such a long season could have left him totally exhausted. Now he can play for A team or the ODIs in Zim before the tests vs WI.

:agree: Absolutely agreee. He is not as good or anyway near Root. Plus there will always appear a new kid for India every couple of years who will grab position in limited over cricket. Even now, list is long.

Perhaps he just wasn't able to secure a spot with a county team.

I do hesitate before forming a negative perception. But I don't consider the human desire for prosperity as a negative attribute. If he wants to play in the IPL and make money that's a perfectly human want. Nothing wrong about that.

But does he want to play in IPL to make money or to prove himself in LO cricket? Do you know? If not, why make perceptions.
