Alistair Cook to break Sachins run scored record in tests in Headingly

Headingley test starts on May 19. Cook will be 31 years and 5 months. And he will just surpass Sachins record of youngest ever to make 10000. All he needs is to score 36 runs against Sri Lanka.

 

This guy may take top spot in most number of tests runs scored in International arena by end of his career.

In the next 10 years, Cook might be the highest run getter and Anderson highest wicket taker for a fast bowler breaking Mcgrath's record.

 

Number of tests played by England per year is between 13-16, way too much.

Anderson is close to 34. dont see him play 3 more years.

One more dip in form like he had in 2013 and 2014 and he will be out of the team with Root snapping at his heels. 34-35 is the age at which most English Test batsmen have retired recently. Stewart was the last English batsman to play beyond 35.

 

Can't see him going beyond 13-14000 runs.

England plays a lot of tests and Cook doesn't have any workload from other formats. It is still a great achievement and you need to be very fit to play so many matches.

Numbers of any batsmen in modern era doesn't bode well in English conditions. I am not comparing him to SRT but what it means is he is well above all if not most of Rockstars and cricketers in test arena.

So debate is whether he is greatest among players like Amala, Kohli, Root, Williamson, Smith?

Amla, Root, way way WAAAYYYY better Cook. Smith, Williamson and Kohli too catching up. But why would you compare an opener with MO batsmen? Different breeds, no? In tests?

Are you serious? Just because he plays a different brand of cricket which doest involve playing with a base ball bat means he is inferior then most. he has scored greater number of runs, at similar or better average in  arguably equally or more difficult conditions.

 

Also what makes you say batting in middle order is tougher. If anything, Its easier as new ball isnt there. So a opener in tests is generally a better or equally good batsman

Root is not close to Cook as a batsman so far. Amla is better though.

For me cricket is entertainment and in that aspect cook is so boring

Root is really good.....

SR could be same for both but the class oozed out by root will make u root to the TV set
