But an aggravated unprovoked assault for being an 'outsider' is discrimination, there is no parallel between this unfortunate incident in Bangalore and general ripping going on on part of Chennai auto drivers. Tamil people being sea faring folks are not particularly discriminating, you would find several high profile leaders/public figures who are from other states.

I lived in Chennai for about 6 months and I am not North Indian...infact lot of locals seemed to have a basic understanding of Telugu but still I felt, the intent of the Autowallahs and the locals was to rip off non-localities regardless of region.....cmon Chennai and Calcutta are notorious for that. i would not know what you must have felt to form that opinion, but can surely understand. But i think its unfair to state that the incident in bangalore which appears to have the 'outsider' syndrome that is being built in bangalore by the political parties is a parallel with the issue with chennai autowallas and nukadd shops, you might hate the city for several reasons but i dont think it is inherently discriminating. You have gone on to state that chennai is a worse place for discrimination, so i was interested in your evidence thats all.

Muloghonto Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 This thread is a sad reality of what is wrong with India. Articles like these, always invokes a 'north vs south/east vs west, hindu vs muslim' context, instead of ASKING our governments to prioritize law and order by SPENDING on it more. People behave this way, because people in India can get away with it. Its silly to think, that if adults can 'get away with mischief', people will not abuse that privilege. What we need, more than carriers and air craft mega-deals in the immediate future, is increasing the budget and manpower of law and order forces ( police, judges) and the taxman by 2-5 folds. beautifulgame 1
randomGuy Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 It's reality, I haven't seen a auto driver in south who doesn't either cry or behaves like a rabid dog for more money at the end of the journey. Auto drivers in Delhi NCR are saints in comparison. Book_Worm and Ironhide 1 1

South: More penetrative public transport, unorganised private cabs auto Mumbai: More penetrative public transport, more regularized private cabs and auto. In parts of Bangalore where the autos and cabs are regularized i did not see such behavior. velu 1

My point being does a mature well penetrated public transport mean organised autowallahs in response, which in turn means less of these shenanigans from auto drivers.

NCR area is large so people prefer to go by metro train if they wanna travel far and take auto from or to the metro station.
