Shabbir ahmed was a chucker  both pre and post remodling the bowling action but he was extremely quick when he first played with his original bowling action but never as quick as Shoaib.

Clocking 90 mph and more consistently    But than he started bowling line and length ala Asif when he was first called .

Obviously wasnt as sucessful as Asif but still had a decent test career whatever little he played . Watch his debut highlights vs westindies . Was as quick as the hype . There were speedguns in that game.

When he made his debut, he was hyped to be faster than Shoaib Akhtar, atleast thats what the Pakistani commentators ( Ramiz Raja and co ) spoke. He also looked to me like a spoilt child ;p

Asif is a topic worth talking about on that thread. Believe it or not he actually came to the states. He played cricket in a area my uncle knows. I would have met him yesturday had I known about it.

If I had a chance to meet him I would need to think of question's I'd like to ask. One of them would have to be about bowling.

Interestingly,I have had the privilege and honour of having lunch with the great Imran Khan.

I am talking about Pakistani bowling unit. As a whole including spinners. I am talking about how they work on the ball. How they use the cross seam. How they use the short bowl. etc.  I think it is inbuilt in their system like it is for our batting, barring the current lot which is good too but selfish.   Even if we compare pacers only, I would take their pace battery over ours. Barring Bhuvi , I am not sure if any other can get in there pace bowling unit.

I would not, because they are too inconsistent.

Amir is too hot and cold ,   Wahab is not good,   Junaid has lost a lot of pace..... I would not opt for any of these pacers.

In the last one year, our pace bowling unit has done better than them as a unit, especially in test matches.

Pace is not everything. In the modern day game the faster you bowl the faster the bowl goes out the stadium. These days having good line and length is very important. With a good slow variation. Cricket is no more a bowlers game. Its a batsmen game.

Pace is very important in test matches, especially in Asia, where reverse swing is the main weapon and the slowness of the pitches need negating to beat defending batsmen.

Even in ODIs, pace is required during overs 1 to 40, when the batsmen are not really trying to hit every ball.

Pace is least important in T20s, where change of pace is the main weapon these days. It is also less important in overs 41 to 50 in ODIs, which is played like T20s.

Line and length is always very important, whether you are bowling fast or slow.

Oh woah get out of here! Thats so cool! How was it like?

I was pretty young then. Since my Uncle was the Director General of Police, as a custom captains of both the teams had come to my uncle's official residence for dinner. I sat next to him. He was very reserved and didnt talk much. Of what I recollect,he looks better on tv than in real life coz his eyes are sunken inwards, if you know what I mean.

Fair points. I guess this shows the difference in mindsets of the countries. You prefer bowlers who do there job more than look for personality. We look for bowlers who show personality and do there job.

This is why my favorite Pakistani bowler right now is Junaid Khan. Its cause he entertains me with his personality. Despite being out of touch for so many years. For me cricket is entertainment. I want the win but I also want to be entertained. I guess each person sees it differently which is fine.

In Hindustan bowler is a worker while in Pakistan bowler is the super star. It is the bowlers who win you test matches.

@express bowling How do you rate Bhuvi as ODI bowler?

Right now his bowling average is 37, do you think he has it in him to lower it and maintain that low average for a long period of time?

I am impressed with the fact that Bhuvi has significantly improved his LOI bowling skills in the last 15 months or so.

He is now bowling late in-dipping yorkers , slower balls and bouncers with confidence and regularity.  This makes his end-over bowling very effective.

In the opening overs, he has become very economical.  He knows exactly where to bowl to contain runs in the first 10 overs.

The only area that can improve is looking to pick more wickets in the first 10 overs. If he achieves this, he will definitely bring down his average significantly and maintain it.  Even this area has improved a bit.

All other aspects are there.

For our pace attack as a whole.... we would still need an out-and-out wicket taker like Shami to complement Bumrah and Bhuvi.

So they play Shami in a format where his RR is almost 10?

Shami is a top quality test bowler and ODI bowler

But a poor T20 bowler

Only reason he played the T20 was because it was an one off T20 and specialist T20 players were not chosen

Hence we have Dhawan, Jadhav,  Jadeja and Shami playing  and no T20 specialists present.

Why cant india play specialists like other teams .

India need a proper overhaul as this is stale and lacking spark .

The bowling attack crumbles when attacked . Pick specialists . Pakistan dont play Yasir in tests . India need not play ashwin and jadeja.
