Anyone actually seen Rishabh Pant keep?

Saha is both younger and fitter than Naman. And better.

I would actually say Ojha is far ahead as a batsman. Has double the FC hundreds, 23 more 50s, more than 3000 extra runs. Only question with Ojha was his keeping and he was very good at that in SL.  Age isnt a huge difference between the two, only 1 year.

Saha does seem fitter but actually not as he keeps getting injured.

Dude, you are arguing for the sake of it. Naman is so far ahead of Saha as a batsman that he averages....the same. Wow. Saha is in the team, a vastly superior keeper, and constantly improving as a batsman. You do not even *talk* about dropping such players with journeymen like Naman. I can understand the clamor for Pant but Naman? Lol.

meant his stats in terms of 100s and 50s and not averages. double the 100, close to double the 50, in only 39 more FC games and I am not clamoring for anything. Selectors already selected OJha for tests and if he was not coming back from an injury, he would even have played against England in tests instead of PP.

I really think Saha gets too much stick . Apart from eng series his glove work has been top notch . And batting ok.

yes he is not gun with bat and is not locked in long term . But as stop gap doing very well

whoever eventually takes his spot their glove work won't be better and if as good as Saha then we will be lucky

Yes yes, I understand, you cherry picked the stats in a feeble attempt to show Naman as somehow capable of replacing Saha. Fail.

Comparison is very much valid despite those similar averages in FC. Anyway Saha is not coming back anytime soon after the way PP  has done against England with the bat.

Er you realise spot is for keeper/bat?

how did pp keep?

Kind of proves my point earlier in thread of keeper role / diffficukty / skill level being underestimated and not understood .

Thing is that for a game like Banladesh, we have to be open minded and look to try for a future keeper who is already performing well in other formats.

You know, all are asking to sack Yuvi and all in ODIS, because we want to get players ready for the future in ODI'S. Then why not the same in test. It is not that we are changing the whole test team around. Against Bangladesh, Pant can be tried. If not keeper, at least as a batsman incase some is injured.

I would say play pant and make him keep innall odis and t20 first . Perfect launch board for his keeping credentials . If keeps poor for a few months no bother. But can't be as chilled in tests in this regard.

o but wait king dhoni has to wear gloves and we show no vision . Plus dhoni don't keep we have added bonus of dhoni the bowler apparently :phehe:

No one is talking about 5th bowling option and Dhoni bowling 10 overs. We already have 5 bowlers with Pandya's inclusion in the team. But if the condition is helpful for seamers as predicted,we simply dont have any part time seam option in case of necessity. So Dhoni can be used to fill in 2-3 overs along with Virat .Part time Spinners will be much less effective.Remember Dhoni even nearly got Jayawardne in last CT ,he can be a adequate option in case of emergencies. This is basically like asking Dhawan or Vijay to turn over their arms in a turner.

This is much better than picking Yuvraj because we need sixth bowling option. Its much better looking inward to get overs from best top 6 batsmen than including an inferior bat because we need his bowling. One extra option is better than having no option.Nothing crazy about it.

I get your point, but I rather have someone who bowls more often, since he has more control of his bowling. Even someone lie Kohli, who is not exactly a spinner, but more of a swing bowler who at times might even bowl spin.

If Saha is replaced by Parthiv it would be roundly criticised. But you keep shifting the goal post. You mention Saha's aging reflexes and then suggest Naman who is 1.5 years older. Accept you made a booboo and move on.

With slowing reflexes, I meant that Saha isn't at his best as a kepper neither is Ojha as both are not too different in terms of age and I only suggested a stop-gap option for 1-2 years because Ojha is a more confident batsman and we have already seen Saha as a batsman and as a keeper who has struggled keeping to spinners. We have seen enough of PP too who is a good batsman but a poor keeper against both pace and spin. So, there is no harm in checking Ojha too because he was pretty good in the only test he played in SL.

I am talking from selectors and team management's point and not mine. Our team and selectors don't usually drop a player who has done well in the previous series unless the player had replaced a big name player.

Why complicate the situation by introducing Naman in the mix ?   He would take a bit of time to get acclimatized to international cricket.

What is our ultimate objective ?

To get a good keeper + a batsman who can average 40+ in test matches.

That means Pant and Kishan are the contenders.

They are probably not ready yet in terms of test match keeping.

BUT  both will be better batsmen than  Saha or Naman  even today.

So, groom Pant and Kishan as test keepers and play Saha in test matches in Asia till they are ready.   ( Play Pant against Bangladesh for grooming purpose )

PP may play outside Asia if Pant is not ready for SA tour....but I hope he will be as he would not have to keep to spinners and the tour is 11 months away.

This is my point again . People don't understand keepers role . Importance of it and how tough skill levels are.

Pp was the keeepr and kept awful . So why you say he has done well ?

Complete lack of understanding of importance of glove work in tests

Even Saha kept awful the last time he played. He too isnt good against spin./

Because Saha keeps getting injured and you will have to have another options too.

He had one or two dodgy games . Prior to that genuinely world class with gloves and scored run including test Ton outside Asia which dhoni never done .

pp consistently poor with gloves . Saha had one or two bad games with gloves
