Its interesting how Rohit Sharma is not counted in the "oldies" bucket.   How old is Fat hitman anyway?  Let's see how he comes back after his quad injury.  He's been all-world the last couple of years, but that doesn't mean he automatically maintains that level going forward as well...

He is averaging close to 50 for Last four years, not just couple of years. In fact, his both double hundreds came more than 2 years back. He will be 30 in April.

I don't dispute Rohit's value to the team as an opening batsman - he walks back in once fit, and gets a good 7-8 ODIs even if he doesn't get big ones right away.  But I'm not blind to his modern-day Ganguly style slow starts either.  Mr. 264 invariably bats worse than 70 SR in the 1st 8 overs - sure he makes it up later if he gets a 100, but that kind of start in powerplay is a big burden on the rest of the team - and even bigger if fails to get a big 100.

Anyway, don't want to derail this thread - changes for 2nd ODI?  Apart from questioning Umesh's spot, I think the rest can't be benched in this short series, now that they have decided to go with them.  Personally, as a Bhuvi fan, I would prefer to see him instead of Umesh, and am curious to see how he would handle the Pommie onslaught - I think he would do a lot better than Yadav.  Not overly optimistic to expect him to match what Hardik Pandya did in the 1st ODI.  Which would be massive improvement from Umesh.

Umesh will get dropped. That will be the only change. Poms took him to the cleaners comfortably.

Ashwin was rusty. Hardly has played much ODI and needs more games under his belt.

Perfect call.
