Ishan Kishan's weird style of hitting the ball

Ishan Kishan seems to have a weird style of hitting the ball. His back hand goes away from the bat when he completes his shot and hence he is probably not getting the same range and distanc as he would like to. He still times it well but he does seem to have a unique style.

Have a look here

Few reasons might be:

1.Grip at the top of handle

2.Loose grip

3. Trying to hit harder.

4. Heavy bat (doesn't look though)

5. Playing shot a bit late than normal and/or getting done by pace.

Last gif almost looks like he is dancing:biggrin:

this method works like elastic effect. DeKock plays similar too at times. Similarly a genuine fast bowler has a stretch reflex and muscles behave like elastic to generate pace like a slingshot.

Can you explain what it is and how it helps? Is it similar to dhoni's helicopter shot follow through.

how does a gulel work? same way. This the reason fast bowlers need to have flexibility in muscles rather than big hard muscles.

This technique can't help get proper range and speed in the shot. He will have to work on this.

Just go grab any stick item in your house and hold it like a cricket it bat. Try to play a pull shot with it and also try to play a pull shot using Kishan's style of play. You will notice that you are not able to put full pressure or force on the stick/bat when playing a pull shot using Kishan's style where back hand is left behind.

Things which are wrong

If you are a right hand batsman, your left hand will always come out when playing a pull shot. So since Kishan is leftie his right hand is coming out when Kishan is playing a pull shot. His front hand(right hand) is going to the direction of the shot but his back hand is left behind which needs to also follow towards the direction of the shot so that he can put more pressure on the bat to connect the ball more firmly. He is not doing that and it is something which needs to be worked or else he will be found out against quality short balls and on big grounds.

In local language we can call him ..Lappe bazz

Don't think he is a "lappe-baaz".

He has proper shots, but just wierd way of connecting the ball which he should fix in order to get full range. He does play some good looking shots otherwise.

that is not  how it works, not necessarily a bad thing as I said in the post above. It depends on which is your stronger arm. He might be lefty but seems like his prominent and stronger hand is right hand.

Dominance matters to only certain extent. If you use both hands, you get more speed.

Currently he is hardly completing his shots. If he completes his shot with both hands, he can time it better. His back hand has to be firm on the bat handle and follow along to apply the proper force to the bat.

have you ever used gulel? This is the same principle here too. He is using elasticity of muscles to hit the shots.

Gulel is a weird example because you take your time to hit. Here when a 140k comes at his chin on a big ground and he has to hit the ball, he will most likely get caught because he won't have completed his shot.

Again, he is used to this technique and it works for him for a lot of shots as he has perfected it playing again and again and has gotten used to it playing this way, but it doesn't necessarily means it is a correct technique as he will be found out with this and it will show its downside soon.

for pull and cut you need strong bottom hand grip ,in india they say have soft bottom hand as a result you lack power for those shots,it could also be a bad habit, guys do this even while driving

Exactly and that is what Kishanji isn't doing and will not help him in future when timing the ball.

I think it will work even better against quick bowlers because he will not have to generate pace and this technique actually works better bowler has pace.  Like today, the ball he got out to, if the bowler had some pace, it would have gone for a bigger distance. Regarding pull shot that pull shot went wrong because he was late on the shot and was not in position to play. Position matters to play any shot and with any technique. Last game, he hit a pull shot on the bowling of a quicker Ankit Rajpoot for 6.

it is not a habit.  He does it on purpose. Check the video I posted. He played shots both ways.

I am talkimg about bigger grounds and clearing big fields. Of course with faster bowlers, you have to just use their pace but it wil also trouble him when even playing spinners and facing slow 65-70k deliveries where he will have to apply the force from both his houlders to clear the fence.

That six was actually of Amit Mishra and he actually hit it with both hands amd looked better. If he hits that way, he will always time better. Check here how he used both handsIMG_1422.PNGIMG_1421.PNG

yes that is what I am saying that he it not a technique but done on purpose to get more distance.
