Target the off and middle stumps consistently, to dismiss tailenders quickly

Recommended Posts

The Indian team are having huge issues with dismissing tailenders, especially in tests outside Asia.

We must sort this out.

1)  The tailenders invariably miss a few deliveries.

2)   To take advantage of the above factor  ...  Target the off and middle stump consistently, ball after ball.   " You miss,  I hit ".

Outside off-stump jaffas may look good but tailenders miss more than they edge, as they are often late on the shot.  May not work quickly.

3)  Bowl a few stump directed quick yorkers.

4)  Set appropriate fields for this strategy.  Have sufficient men in catching positions too.

5)  Bowl a few bouncers to make them circumspect about coming on the front foot  ... make them uncomfortable with some chin music.  Keep a short leg to pile on the pressure.

Don't over-bowl or under-bowl the bouncer to tailenders.

6)  When tailenders bat with a slightly better batsman, we often stop trying to get the better batsman out  and spread the field  ...  and try to get the weaker batsman out desperately.

I don't think this is a good strategy.  Rarely works and the better batsman keeps getting easy runs and farming the strike.

Try to get the better batsman out too ... apply pressure from both ends.

Go for lbw or bowled or bat pad first up.

The sure shot dismissals. Going for caught behinds/bouncers wastes a lot of deliveries.

Need to dislogde them within 10 balls when they are extremely vulnerable otherwise their defense gets better.

First 2 wickets to fall today ...  the 7th and 8th wickets  ...  were stump directed deliveries which got a LBW and a bowled.

And the 10 th wicket was an off stump directed ball which was edged by Hazlewood.

Before that, in the first 10 overs of the day, Shami and Ishant wasted the almost new ball bowling short and widish to the tail.  Although Ishant made up with 2 quick wickets in his last over.

I really don't know why we don't bowl many more stump directed balls at the tail.

It was brain dead bowling to start the day today. Iiinstead of getting batsman out, they had a deep fine leg and deep square leg for Cummins. Shami and Ishant kept truing to bowl short. Bad plan today. They should looked to bowl more on stump.

There was a stat that in first 8 overs there were just two balls bowled on stumps and rest all on 5th stump or shooet ballls on body or leg.

That said,  Good finish in the end with four quick wickets.

This is why kaptaan and coaches criticized for strategy, and field given to bowlers @King Tendulkar

Bumrah came and that field wasn’t set. Bowilers, such senior bowlers need to lead crom the front too.  You can’t blame coaches and captains all the time. Its not like Ishant and Shami bowl everything which captain wants them to bowl.

It was poor bowling.

I don’t think they bowl short intentionally, they try to bowl good length but because of lack of rhythm try to bang the ball at pace and land it short

So bowlers are in charge of field settings, players need to practice themselves. Batsmen need to figure out themselves and fielders need to

practice themselves. Let us do away with the concept of coach and captains

Bowlers need to learn to bowl. When I play I tell my captain to fk off and let me bowl what I want to bowl as I am a specalist bowler and you are specialist bat so listen to me and give me the field.

Captain can change 1 or two fielders but eventually I need to find a way to get wicket for the team.

Shami and Ishant are playing since ages.

Yes, some of that is the case , but the ones on off side were a bit too much. They should have made the batsman plag like put on off stump or middle. It makes the batsman use his feet which is what you want. You want them to play shots or make some error. You might get and LBw through that.
