Secular India

I think given how much this gets talked about, I do wonder what exactly is secularism in India? Let's keep this discussion focused on the very definition and practice of India secularism. So a initial question could be is there a single definition or multiple definitions of it. Some facts to get started, the word secular itself is originally about separating the church from the state.

Secularism in India is a convenient cloak for socialist politicians to rob the country left right, up down. The last 10 years has been a great advertisement of Indian secularism being fully implemented for greedy purposes.

Already there seems to be some interesting answers. Seems like there seems to multiple definitions instead of a constant definition. But why exactly is it based on religion? Shouldn't secularism itself simply be defined that an individual can freely act in accordance to his/her own wishes and beliefs? Basically, is Secular =freedom of choice. And then what exactly does equality imply? Does secularism = equality? That is not at all practiced in India with laws such as reservations. So really brings back to the original question, what exactly is secular India?

I see Secularism as a way for government to act and take decisions based on rationale rather than by influence of any religion. If its conflicting with your religious beliefs then boohoo. :finger:
aah we can never have too many atheists on ICF. :finger:

So common civil code, right ? None or little reservations. Only merit.
You cannot seriously expect a guy who comes from a family that has been abused for centuries to have the same skills as a guy with better opportunities. Reservations should be based on economic and education level of parents.
