Grooming Manish Pandey for 50 overs

I believe with the Punjab/Delhi politics to the fore, it is more likely for the likes of Mandeep Singh to get preference over Manish Pandey.

Ideally Pandey should have been an established star in our test and ODI teams by now, having debuted when he was in full rage for Karnataka in Ranji Trophy 4 years back.. Alas.. Same thing is happening with Iyer now.. he is in top form but he's not getting any chances. Selectors prefer Yuvrajs and Dhonis..

KL Rahul is way better than him. But Pandey is good and could be a backup but I doubt his technique against spin and reverse swing which is needed in middle overs.

KL Rahul/Pandey/Shreyas Iyer should be competing for No.4

Very difficult to find someone who can replace Yuvraj and Dhoni. These two are biggest hitter of the cricket we ever had. We have one in Pant who has potential to match these two guys but we need one more who can do that. Manish Pandey is not the answer. Sanju Samson is another guy who has amazing hitting ability but he is like young Rohit, indecisive. Ishan Kishan is another one with great hitting ability but he is a bit too young.

These two guys had the ability to hit and also play percentage cricket when required. Pant will certainly take a few years before he could become that kind of cricket knowing when to hit, which bowler to target. These guys were not blind hitters and even those guys took years to mature. Hope people keep their expectations low.

Not convinced by Pandey - his most (and only) memorable innings came on a truly flat track. Besides that, he has done little of note. Too early to tell whether he should be groomed instead of some of the other candidates around
